Hi all

We have a Burstner Lyseo 728g with a Thule wind out awning and recently bought a Vango Hexaway Tall from a friend to use on it. The problem we have encountered is that with the awning attached to the Thule channel, we cannot open the habitation door as the top of the awning walkway catches the door. Has anyone found a work around with one of these or any other awning where you have had the same issue. I know we can use the awning free standing, but it's not the same, and of course we do not wish to fall foul of 'no tents' issues with any sites.

Many thanks.

Yvie

We have the same issue with our Burstner. No workaround other than to erect the awning as faraway as possible to stretch the tunnel top. I don’t like the idea of using the over-the-roof straps but they would raise the tunnel roof a bit.
Stand alone awnings are usually allowed as what’s the real difference if the tunnel isn’t used? Except that the whole point of the tunnel is weather protection.

Its often more a question of where the attachment to the van is?. Mine is very high up on the o/s off the rollout, and clears the door?. ( not by much, but enough). But I do have to wind the awning out, conect up then wind back in to lock, or get a step to fit the strip into the rail

Thank you both for your replies. It's always great to hear from someone who has had or has the same issues, experience is priceless. :)

Unfortunately you've bought the wrong drive away awning, you really needed one with a much higher freestanding part as then the tunnel is attached higher thus reducing the angle of it, can you sell it on and then and get something more suitable in place of it?

I've been trying to think of how you can keep the Hex awning and make is usable ... the only solution I can come up with is to adapt the existing tunnel by removing the existing flat top section and replace it with 3 triangular sections, 2 on the sides and one across the top all of which meet at the centre and retaining the existing tunnel sides, the below gives you an idea if what I mean.

How far is it over the door? You might be able to cobble up a framework to sit inside the tunnel and lift the fabric up a bit . I think some camping shops have a load of old poles.

Thank you all so so much for your input, you have certainly given me food for thought as to how it could work. I am so very grateful. I shall now explore my options, given my capabilities of course and see what happens. Cheers all, have some lovely, if not sadly strange, remaining summer getaways

I had the same issue with my previous ‘van - Majestic 120 - the wind out canopy was too low, just above the hab. door, and the only solution without remounting the wind out further up the ‘van side, was a couple of poles (helpful chaps! ;) ) slightly in front of the door so as to raise the tunnel canopy just enough for clearance. Not very elegant, unfortunately........:(
