Thinking ahead to Autumn. What about driving from Italy to Greece? Bearing in mind we like wild camping, scenery, countryside, lakes, seaside and peace & quiet. Any brainwaves, experience, routes , GPL, water, etc...suggestions ???

The usual route is by one of the ferries directly from Italy to Greece. You can certainly drive but the shortest route involves going through Albania which might be a problem getting insurance but it can certainly be done and Albania would be an adventure.
Alternatively, take the long route via Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania.

Take the boat from either Venice, Ancona, Bari or Brindisi to Patras. I've sailed from Ancona and Bari, it's a nice crossing and you can stay in your van on the deck with hookup.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
How lovely. We'd love to do the Greek islands. We're stuck for time as yet and can only manage 3 weeks tops.
So , seeing as though we don't think that's long enough to even go to France, Greece too will have to wait till we have much more time on our hands.
If you do end up going , please post along the way , with lots of pictures.

We are flying to Southern Crete, Aghia Gallini , where we married 23 years ago , on the 10th June.
Looking forward to all the yummy seafood and Greek salad , not forgetting lamb in the oven and kleftiko etc.

We are now sitting in the sun wild camping about 60 miles south of Thessaloniki. It appears just ask a taverner owner if you can park up, the answer is always yes. LPG everywhere.

We travelled down Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria.

Greece isn't as cheap as before, so stock up on wine and beer before you arrive, cos it's cheap in Romania and Bulgaria.

Budapest is a great city, as is Bratislava, where we wild camped on the edge of the Danube only a 10 min walk from the city.

Us too! As, due to a family commitment, we won't be going to Morocco for our winter break, we've thought of Greece sometime end of March, April. Will watch thread too.
