I'm a newbie
I bought a nice big s/h drive away Vango Tall awning for my Mo Ho. First thing I did was check the bead was compatible with the sun canopy, second thing I did was sell it because it was far too heavy for my payload.
Before I commit to buying a lighter model can someone explain to me how a drive away awning actually works. How do you slid the roof out of the canopy when the awning is erected with its poles all in place and pegged down. I'm trying to visualise driving away while the wife is stood on a stool (she's under 5ft) hanging onto one end of the roof. I can see that working but how do you thread the thing back on again when you return from the shops/pub. Surely not in reverse order ⁉

Surely not in reverse order
Oh yes it is......
Slide out the figure 8 strip then drive off, return to EXACTLY THE SAME Position and reinsert the figure 8 strip... Have fun!!!!

PS... Couple of tent pegs to mark the outer bottom center of tyres before moving helps

Usually the tunnel part of the awning is fixed to the van roll-out awning using a kador strip. This is strip of material with a 4mm bead on one side and a 6mm bead on the other. The 4mm goes into the roll-out groove, then some adaptors attach that to the driveaway.

You drive up to position. Roll out the roll-out a bit, fit the kador strip and wind the roll-out back in.

Sounds tricky but is very easy,

That is, if I understand your question correctly.

That's interesting ! especially as you're talking to someone who pruned the overhead branches in Morrisons car park and slammed on my brakes thinking I might not get under a low bridge in Honiton. Well, not everyone can convert imperial to metric in 4 seconds. So I have to realign exactly when I return (possibly on levelling ramps) to reattach the awning, ooookay, no problem, piece of cake.

You do need the Kador strip though otherwise you will struggle to get it back on
