Hi, Just bought a double skillet but never bothered buying the recipe book as previous threads said it was a waste of money so...
What do you cook in your double skillet, and what have you tried tbat you wouldn't again?

so far only tried roast pork, meat lovely and tender but potatoes a bit soggy. The rest of the time have just used like a frying pan or saucepan, will say it's very easy to clean

We mainly do meat (lamb, beef, pork, chicken or gammon) in the lower pan with potatoes and accompanying veg in the upper pan. We never have soggy potatoes. Jill - who is the technical expert of the two of us - says that you have to continue cooking until the water is gone. If necessary she turns up the temperature to drive the moisture off.

EDIT - Another favourite is salmon with salad. Put the salmon fillets, skin side down, in the pan with the lid on. By the time the salad is prepared the salmon is cooked through.

I am bumping this up again as im having 1 disaster after another. Not quite the wonderful gadget I believed it to be or maybe my cooking skills are just worse than I thought. :)

Are you heating the pan then turning it down to a really low heat.

Are you using a defuser for pies etc.

Potatoes are the only veg not recommended to cook in with your meat.

Any joint of meat will cook beautifully done really slowly turn occasionally to brown.

Jacket Potatoes get nice shaped ones not to fat. Turn the pan over occasionally the sound will change as they cook.

Toasty sandwiches butter bread then put butter side to the pan pile on filling put other slice of bread on butter side up again, turn over with spatula. Yum.

Thanks Carol .I am trying a chicken as we speak, but no never heated both sides up:( I did check on it a while ago and it looked like I burnt a leg. My oven chips looked more like mashed potatoes. No wonder mum doesn't let me near the cooker when we go in the MH. I guess its like an old B/F who once made me a cup of tea and left the tea bag in...His answer was it will save me ever making you another one :)

Yes Graham, that's what the lady selling them told me, I did ask her, don't know why. If I am doing beef I will put the potatoes in but don't with any other meat.

I gave up with the double skillet and now use the remoska all the time. Was looking at the new one in Lakeland yesterday and seriously thinking of buying another for use at home, so economical too!

Firstly.. Get a stainless Diffuser.. Looks better and lasts longer..
As for instructions... Anything we can cook in an oven we can cook as well in the skillets... Didn't know about potatoes... They seem to work ok..
We use them every trip for all cooked meals.... Often instead of using the oven
Even used them on the cadac on saturday

We use the skillet all the time when we don't have ehu.
Have bought a diffuser lately though as the cookery in the new van hasn't got a low flame like the last van so Everything was burning.
Chickens especially are really yummy cooked in the skillet.
I have cooked bread and Welsh cakes in it as well.

Frozen Pittza cook great just keep turning the skillet to stop bottom burning. Chicken tastes great cooked in its own juices.

I read all the messages about double skillets not turning up or taking ages so bought this one from Amazon for about £30 http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00C2T14TS/?tag=mhf04-21 We cooked in it all the time and I insisted upon a roast in Provence in July on a Sunday and it was great. Ommelettes are superb in there. This style of double skillet folds over to magnetically seal. The balance is just off if you cook with it in the open mode but certainly does us well and is now in the kitchen where it is used daily at home.

Since 2007. But no more.
Much as I hate reviving old threads, I have one of these Double Skillets in pretty good nick, that needs a new home.

Anybody interested, give me a shout.

If not, the new home could be the local tip. (sorry "Recycle Centre"):Eeek:
