a quick google shows a dd bus as being anywhere between 13 foot and 14foot 9 inch !
14 feet is 4.26 metres , so be carefull of buying just any dd bus , 4metres is safe 4.2metres is gambling

Reading this thread brought back memories of our double decker bus trip back in 1984.

We travelled with a company called Top Deck Travel from Calais to Kathmandu, through Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Trip of a lifetime and brilliant times.

Scanned a couple of pics. We're the couple outside the bus in the group photo on the right - Mandy's wearing a Pakistani hat and I'm behind her with the flat Pathan hat on! That one was taken at the Bolan Pass in Pakistan (good spot to wash the bus). Our bus was called "Grunt" and in true Aussie style, the other buses in the fleet were named things like "Belch" and "Chunder". :roflmto:

In the one outside in the snow we're on the left. That was near Sarajevo and we were stuck there for three days. In those cold days (we left in February) our driver used to light a fire under the sump each morning before starting the engine. In India we'd pass him kettles of cold water to top up the radiator as he was driving!

The third pic shows us (there were 13 of us, Aussies, Brits and Yanks) downstairs.

I remember at the time they said a standard Bristol bus was no good as it was too high for most of the tunnels in Europe.

Steve

Hi.
We converted a Dodge 50, which I believe was a single decker 22 seater, local bus. Lovely lot of space and a dream to drive(on the main roads) but when we hit the smaller villages in France/Spain sometimes had to do a double move to get around the corners.
Would not like to dampen your ardor but something smaller would be more fun-economical-ferry fare wise and running.
Diesel at the moment running at €1.50/60 across the continent and only way is up.
How about a long wheel base, hi-top panel van, eco and doddle to convert with plenty of space.:thumb:
