Has anybody replaced their Autotrail door catch as per picture one (Veneta)
Ours is now worn and no longer keeps the door open in windy conditions
It appears only to be riveted to the GRP wall skin so not sure where it gets its strength
I was thinking of replacing it with an alternative type as per picture 2 (Viva)
I am interested to know if anybody has done this and used screws or rivets to do it (plus Sikaflex)

Still learning since 2010
Ours is useless too and I really should replace it.
They are only held on by a couple of screws (rusty at that) so will be an easy job.

I have resorted to using a bungee strap from the door to the chassis rail.
Woks well but can be a bit of a faff to put on the chassis if it is raining or wet etc. Once on I only unhook the door end until we move on.

Hi it's a very simple case of taking off -clean and screw back on -sticking Sikaflex type adhesive as well --Best thing to do when opening the door is to press one side of the clip part so that the other bit slips into the clip instead of just banging it into the clip --They can be bought on ebay for a couple of quid and if you use some stuff off toolstaion ending in 40 --used to be called pu 40 but they have changed it's name £4 a tube and it keeps a little while unlike Sikaflex that costs anything from £6 to 13 £ and goes off next day :winky:

If I change to the Viva catch in picture 2 does it matter which piece fixes to the door and wall ?
I will need to cover the existing holes so think I would need to fasten A piece to the wall and spring catch to the door !

Ok ...

check the clips as some are handed so only fit one way to allow for the swing of the door . ( as i found out  )

i use bungy but also replaced the original

with the original.. 2 words .." pure shite" SERIOUSLY ,,
imagine screwing and gluing onto a panel that if the wind catches the door its going to rip out the screws,, and worse rip the panel..
forget adding in any more catches etc use a bungy from the inside across to the inside passanger door,, ,,

We had the same problem and had been looking for a better catch.
At the Detling show we saw these on another funsters van (sorry I've forgotten who it was).
Ordered and fitted one to our van and very pleased with it.

Does the door rattle when its a bit windy ? or does the latch hold it rigid ?

If the catch is lined up correctly it should stand all but the strongest of winds --yes you can fit either side ---perhaps the catch and a bungee will be good because the catch will hold the door off the van and bungee will hold it in place ::bigsmile:

Drill, I used a 2.5 mm HSSD, buy them in B&Q, and as with anything! softly softly catchee monkey!

Take it easy in other words, don't go at it bull in a china shop, eeeaassyyy does it!, if the rivet spins? use a bigger drill to take the head off the rivet, then continue with the 2.5, Pressure in short bursts, zzzzttt! pause zzzttt! pause!

I have 1 of those in my garage as well but as yet don't want to try and get the rivets out of the existing catches!! If I drill the head off to get the catch off what's left behind?
