Received email this morning saying as we had not been over the Dartford Crossing for 12 months they were going to close the account

Contact them and close the account and get a refund. Open a new account when you next want to use the crossing. It'll easier doing it now rather than waiting until after they close the account which is what I did. Took ages to get the money back as had to remember the car registration number which was on the account even though we'd removed it - they wanted the numbers of all vehicles when the account was opened! You have to do it by email as they are a different CS department to the one you phone!

I just do a one-off payment online that morning or a day or two before. It only takes a couple of minutes.

Same here a week or two back. I seem to remember logging in and telling them to keep it open.

Fair comment... especially in the week that gas/electric companies are getting it the neck for keeping customers money

What’s the big deal? I had the same email a couple of weeks ago, just go online and confirm you want to keep the account open, job done.
I had one last year.It was either make a crossing, close it, or top it up .if you can elect to keep it open i didn't see that last year?

I got an email saying I could log in and then click onto manage my account and it gives option to keep it open for a further 12 months👍
Edit. Just seen Stephen Franklin post🙄

There was the option to keep open, which we have done The balance is below £10-00.
Only reason for not using is because of lockdown

Just checked email sent in sept but I didn't see it so account now closed.
