Just returned from a few days away and come to remove the cassette from our Dometic toilet but it's jammed, the catch you lift to remove the cassette is lifting ok and that part of the cassette seems to be free , the problem seems to be further inside the cavity that the cassette goes into. Any suggestions please.
There is a SOG fitted but that doesn't seem to be the problem.
Thank you for any help.

Is the hole open?

I would also check the flap release inside the van and ensure its pushed back fully... Those domestic cassettes are a pain and I have to apply silicon grease regular to the chrome sliding parts under the flap release..

We had a lot of trouble similar to the OP.

In our case the flap mechanism failed and we couldn't remove the cassette.

We were touring in the Swiss Alps and I believe the original cause was the failure of the breather. So at altitude we couldn't open the flap because of the pressure change. In turn, the flap mechanism collapsed and the cassette jammed.

Managed to get a nearby Dometic service agent to fix the flap and release the jammed cassette. Extracting the cassette wasn't a quick or easy job - watched 2 technicians struggle for about 25 minutes. :giggle:

Once out, they rebuilt the flap mechanism and all good.

But at that stage we didn't realise the original reason for the issue, until the next day, at the top of another mountain pass... DOH, it happened all over again!! :(

Managed to sort it out ourselves and since then (4 years ago) always travel with the flap very slightly ajar. Has never been a problem since.

However, now carry a new spare flap mechanism, but not needed it to date.

Ours wouldn't be a pressure problem as we have a SOG so pressure always equalised.
Will fiddle with the flap mechanism tomorrow, failing that Bill at Hayes Leisure says his fitter will have a look at it on Monday.

I think I'll get Jacqui to do that or I could fill the hose with water first and then do as you suggested - I still have to get the cassette out though!

If the workshop at Hayes can't fix it - I'm a Chinaman. Depending on how full it happens to be, I can't see offering them a drink or several being amiss!

Oops - pressed "post reply" too soon.
Good news!
Thanks to the combined effort of Bill and Chris Hayes, our toilet cassette is now free!
We are glad we bought local and have built up a good relationship with Hayes Leisure, we can't recommend them highly enough.

watch out that the cover that fits on the top of the cassette when you pull it out is put on in the correct direction, or the cassette jams in when inserted. It takes no small amount of force to pull it out again and you worry that something will break. A novice mistake that you don't do twice

No idea what the problem was. Hayes just applied a bit more force than I was prepared to use. Cassette now thoroughly cleaned and lubricated, cassette aperture vacuumed and cleaned.
All now as new!
