Hypothetically speaking...

Is it possible to un install a Tec Tower and separate the oven from the fridge?

My idea is to replace the fridge with a compressor model but retain the oven.

Just a thought for my new van

Appreciate any input - thank you !

I would certainly give it a go - what the worst that could happen?
They would have been made separately I'm sure and simply screwed together.

Do you honestly think Mrs C will allow me within 100 yards of her new Gin Palace with an angle grinder?

The idea of a conventional oven at ceiling height is a particularly bad, and dangerous one.
We have a microwave in that position and thats bad enough.

What's the advantage of a compressor fridge?

Joe

They are more efficient at keeping food cold and are not affected by high ambient temperatures.

However they only run on Electric so you need a number of solar panels or be connected to mains.

I'm wondering if the 3.3 amps is a constant or is it only when the compressor part is running.
Our domestic fridge/freezer only sees to run for short period in the hour.

We've got a Dometic cool box in the garage which pulls 6 amps
Absorption model too, so suffers in the heat and creates loads of heat too.

I think you maybe miss read, I said domestic as in at home ? My reason for wondering if the Vitrifrigo DP150ian ran constantly or off for periods was if it was off for periods then the battery/solar usage would not be to bad maybe.

Sorry
I'm working on the assumption that 3 amps is the average consumption per hour over a 24 hour period.

Shame that you spend so much money on a high end motorhone, that there are arent more options on the appliances that you can fit.:(
I wonder if the american RV's have problems with temps in their large fridge freezers?

They should be separable Robert. I am having my Tec Tower's oven replaced with a new one under warranty (warped floor) and there is no suggestion that the whole Tec Tower is being replaced.

I was reading online that in certain warmer states that compressor models are the norm.

We ordered our Carthago without the oven, not realising it was an extra.
By the time we realised it was too late to change the spec so the dealer fitted the oven when the van arrived in the Uk.
All that is a roundabout way of saying that it must be possible to fit the oven separately.

Richard.

Hi Robert

Your question was, is it possible to uninstall the oven from the Tec tower? I believe @DavidG58 had experience with this when he replaced his fridge freezer and found that the oven was integral, after saying that it's certainly possible to fit the Dometic fridge freezer without the oven as TW used to supply UK spec Arto and Flair with a Thetford oven and microwave instead of stand Tec tower.

Why not talk to the factory or your dealer and see what they can fit for you.

Martin

Interesting but uses 1kw/24 hr thats 83 a/h don't think your roof is big enough for the solar panels you would need unless you are going to move to southern Spain.

Can you help me understand please Lenny

How can 83 amps per day equal the 3amps per hour that they quote ?

Just had another look, they say 3.3 amps but don't quantify it so a bit of useless info. If you assume that is the average, then over 24 hours that would be 80 a/h, they say Absorption 0.98kw/24 which I would assume is the effective cooling. They don't say at what ambient temerature the figurers are quoted at so could be consuming a lot more when it's 35 deg outside.
Found some about the efficency of compressor fridges.

Despite all the downsides of absorption fridges they still appear to be the best bet for Motorhomes but we shouldn't have to do all the mods with fans to get them working properly about time the manufacturers sold a product fit for porpose.

Another option is one of these for the garage.

Russell Hobbs RHGWC1B Glass Door Cooler, Black Amazon product ASIN B017IOKN52
By my reckoning, uses only 282 watts per day.

Would keep the 'essentials' cool and could be used for items from the main fridge during very warm periods.

Can anybody see any issues with this?
