Hi,

Folks I am looking for a wee bit of advice.

I have one such unit fitted to my Pilote Explorateur.

The fridge isn't working on the gas, however it works AOK on mains and 12 v. I have a new, professionally installed gaslow system to run it off.

I searched out and read some of the previous fridge problems posed and have done the following.

All isolation taps are open; there is no apparent leakage in the system, the gas hob works fine so I assume there is no apparent air in the system.

I have removed the internal cover swept and vacuumed the burner box of the heavy soot deposits inside. The gas jet appears to be working as it should, as is the igniter. I get a steady, clear blue flame about 3cm tall within the burner tube and the housing above heats up to the point of just being able to touch it.

I have not yet swept the flu as I cannot see a vent, even on the roof! Access is restricted without removing the burner/igniter housing to allow access to the vertical flu tube but I don't want to remove it if I don't have to.

However, and this is causing me some concern, when the gas is being used as described above, there is a noticeable smell of exhaust fumes round my o/s habitation door both outside and inside, I really noticed it this w/e when up at Knockhill.

I cannot locate the point from where it is coming, but it is worrying me a wee bit. It's not Carbon monoxide though as I have a new detector mounted above the door, but it's definitely some form of hydro carbon exhaust odour.

So Folks, any suggestions?

Cheers in advance.

sounds like you need to sweep the flue you need to get at the top of the flue as there is a baffle that hangs on a wire hook that needs to be removed its possible the flue just discharges in to the space between the two air vents you can tell as the top vent will be twice the size of the lower one to allow for cooling and combustion products the fact it smells also points to a blocked flue

you will probably need to remove the tee piece on top of the flue to get the baffle out if its similar to mine the screw is accessible from the top venti used a small ratchet with a pozidrive bit

Done it folks. After much disassembly, arm twisting, grunting and swearing ( and that was just to get the wife out the house, BOOM BOOM!) I have managed to get it working. I reckon in total I removed about half a mug of soot. So much for the previous owners regular service...

Cheers for your advice.
