I have a problem with my Dometic hob ignition........i've lost my spark.

When i press the switch i get no spark. Over the last few months i have been getting an intermittent spark but now it has stopped altogether.

It seems that it doesn't work from the 12v hab system as when i was getting patchy sparking i switched off the 12v main switch and still got some sparks.

I have read the manual for the hob but there is no mention of the igniter in it.

I have looked for seperate batteries for it but can't find any.

My van is a 2016 Rapido 680ff............any thoughts?

hi bobby, can't really help, but id be surprised if it didn't come off the 12v system if there is no mention of batteries in the instructions..
lost the spark on my oven and pulled it out to have a look... never did find anything obvious ,but suspected the push in switch... anyway it started working again :D2...
hope all is well..

I think the hob will still be under warranty. I would contact Dometic. I don't have my manual to hand but I think they come with a 2 year warranty.

Andy , it seems my fridge also works ie lighting and ignition independent of the hab main switch.

Its less than 1 year old, i'll get it attended to when i'm at the dealers for service.
My only problem is when i take it back and it needs a part it could be a double journey.

You could check the voltage at the switch... if thats OK then you would need to find the unit it supplies by tracing the wire from the switch.. that unit will supply the hob electrodes...
If all those connections can be checked and the electrode insulators art broken there's not much else left other than the spark generator...
Worth a look if you can get access. ..

The wires are not easy to get at apart from the switch, i reckon by bridging the wires i blew a fuse 3amp that turned the electronics off on my fridge. I have replaced the fuse and checked the others. I'm reluctant to mess around with it as its under warranty and i will be going back to the dealer soon. A good old clipper will do for the next fortnight.
I thought i would air it in case it was something silly, thanks for your help lads(y)
Must report it in the morning

A guess from me. Myra has got it wet when cleaning the cooker so it won't work again til it's dry :D2

I would agree with Andy and get it back into dealers , barely a year old and I certainly wouldn't pay for a new switch.

I think it was damp from cleaning which killed our switch.

Get one of these from the pound shop, my oven ignitor doesn't work and will cost £000's in labour just to investigate so I use this, but under warranty you should get it fixed by the dealer.

It seems that it doesn't work from the 12v hab system
The Hab main switch does not completely isolate the 12V leisure battery. There should be an isolator next to the battery to do that job. The hab main switch turns off most of the hab functions, but leaves things like the electric step, frost protection valve and fridge control connected. I presume the hob spark supply is included in this.

My hob igniter is not on perm live.. and stops working if control panel is off...

Edit: Thought I'd check oven... that IS on perm live circuit... I was expecting it to be same as hob!...

Depending on the model of your Dometic hob, the battery for the igniter is in the switch itself.
We had the same issue of sporadic spark/no spark. Manual talked about changing the battery by turning the switch clockwise after pushing in. Didn't work. Then found I was pushing too hard and the turn is anti clock wise. So try GENTLY pushing igniter in (and I mean about 1mm) at the same time turning it anti clockwise. Switch popped out and replaced the worn out AA battery. Now sparks and lights first time.
Hope this helps.

EDIT: oops, noticed it was your hob not fridge. Sorry. Senility creeping up on me!

I reckon it IS the switch, no continuity on multimeter,

Strange thing is when i try to by pass the switch the fuse blows........or it could be shorting on the stainless steel.
