Dometic CT4110 alder flap replacement. (1 Viewer)

Just got a new Motorhome and found the slider flap is broken. Rather than travel back to the dealer I requested the new plast part to be posted to me and I would fit it. However, it appears to be a force fit with the two small lugs locating into fixed supports. I’m fearful of braking these supports when trying to remove the old unit. It looks like the new flap will snap into place along the slightly tapered grooves. I wonder if anyone has had any experience of fitting one of these “ slider flaps “. surfing the net it looks like the Dometic is far less reliable than the Thetford units I’ve used without a problem for the last 20 years.

It may prise out with the help of some silicon spray lubricant, however another method would be, use a soldering iron to cut the orange part in half, first slide a thin piece of sheet metal between the orange section and the white body to prevent any unwanted damage

Cut it as above, or Dremel or multi tool or a few hours with a sharp blade.

What an amazing and helpful lot you are. I also emailed Dometic and received the following;
“Dear Sir,
We would suggest squeezing the orange flap together.
The orange flap can be damaged when the silver slider on the cassette is not locked in place correctly. If its not locked in when the cassette is pushed in this can hit the orange flap when its trying to lift out of the way.”
Since I have the new one to hand I can tell you this will not bend in the area required but the reason for the breakage could be something to remember.
I will review your suggestions and update once attempted. Thanks again.

I removed the broken flap by making a big loop of string around the flap and then easing the orange flap to one side with a small electrical screw driver then giving it a pull. The new flap needed lug ( the bit that broke ) to be inserted into the operating arm before pushing it into place with a little lube on the pivot points. However this new unit didn’t appear to operate in a manner that I felt happy with and I was now aware, thanks to Dometic, that forcing it was likely to brake this flap. Sooooo, since this flap is purely cosmetic and only blocks the hole left by the removal of the cassette whilst being emptied I decided to do away with it and live without it. The upshot being I now have two apertures whilst emptying the cassette, I can live with that. The operating arm that worked the orange flap now hangs down freely and lifts back into place without resistance, happy days.
BTW I did attempt a repair but it makes the flap too thick but it filled in the time while waiting for a new one.
