Domestic Spares (1 Viewer)

Hiya
I have a Dometic RMS8501 fridge and annoyingly the door's bottom bottle shelf has cracked. I am flabbered that a new one will be about £40 - £50 !!!! for a bit of plastic.

Can anyone recommend a glue that might work or any other type of repair?

Otherwise where is the cheapest place to buy Dometic spares.

but I have never used it. A lot will depend on what the shelf is made from and how you intend to fix it.

We have had, freezer door catch fail, door bin shelf break, travel latch break, salad drawer front break. Tried glue but no success. Eventually carefully drilled the salad drawer front and eased some small screws in.

Freezer door replaced by dealer.

Dometic are rubbish and spares expensive.

depends how pretty you want it to be , I'd just tape the bottom side and live with it rather than spend £50 on something you only see when the fridge door is open

This stuff is never coming off but they only do it in black or white not clear

I've had a bit of success with Superglue and cutting up an old plastic dish to make a brace/support. Just check which plastics your Superglue cllaims to fix, most of them say these days.

I've had a look at the shelves etc in out van and they are marked as >PS< which I think is polystyrene.

I have not done this My attempt at a repair to domestic fridge shelf was less than acceptable and I ended up using clear duct tape.

On our impulse purchase 16yr old Swift Touring Caravan, the same problem had been solved by drilling the front and side of the shelf carefully, and then sliding the smallest electrical cable tie and fastening off. Not elegant but functional, and works just about everywhere in the wondrous plastic world of leisure vehicles! A variation on a theme would be a pop rivet through the fridge front and side onto a cut out area of a food storage box. the corner angle would be roughly the same and if you sacrifice a larger sized box. the corner structure would run pretty much the full height of the salad drawer and may be less noticeable.

We have a dodgy fitting on the push fit fridge salad drawer front on Brunhilde, so I might have a play and see how far wide of the mark my theory ends up! There's always a dollop of superglue if all else fails, or to act as a reinforcing material. Or, one that appeals to me; stop eating salad My name is not Burrows and I don't plan to move into one ...

You could use pipe solvent weld , try it on an area, if it softens the plastic it will weld it back together if supported with tape in the meantime.The famous JB Weld does a 2 part plastic weld that I have used successfully but not all plastics are the same and JB does go a yellowish colour when set.
I find that generally the more pliable, the harder is to glue
Be sure to degrease it with solvent ( Brake Cleaner?)
Certainly wouldnt spend a shed load of money on a new shelf
