I had one of Jim’s excellent log books a couple of years ago (thanks!). I wondered if there is an online way of achieving the same? I can’t see any iPhone apps that do the job. Ideas?

You do need to understand a little about how it works There is a free version to get started I believe.
As regards a log there are THREE elements...

campsites- this is the basic information about a campsite. You can categorise then eg wild, CS, CL etc.
Trip log - when you go away you tag a campsite in your trip log (this is why campsites is separate as you might visit a campsite many times over a number of years). The trip log is the detail of the specific stay at that campsite. Right down to pitch. Let’s say it is a large rally field and you like a particular spot you can save the ‘campsite’ but also the exact GPS location.

Funalky, there is Trips - trips are a collection of Trip Logs eg you have a TRIP to the Loire. You crest a Trip called Loire. You add campsites to the triplog and to the Trip.
All of the above can be displayed in list or map form and searched and sorted by dates, type of sites etc

once you get used to it, it is great

ps it stores photos you take as well

I'll stick to my A5 notebook - gives me something to do with my cuppa when we arrive anywhere!

Online diaries or trip logs cannot hold a candle to something handwritten. If you want to read your journals 5,10,20 years from now then handwrite them. Guaranteed your digital notes will get lost and they only hold ¼ of the appeal.

Not if you saw my handwriting! I couldn’t even be a doctor 😀

I do know what you mean about losing digital - it is essential that whatever you choose can be exported into good old fashioned paper

Try RV Companion on phone or iPad - does that and a lot more
Unfortunately for IOS only.

I get what Jim is saying about digital media storage risks but a lot of these Apps have an option to buy a "travel book".

I had a go at a website/app called polar steps and although it's not specifically for camping, I thought it was OK

I did decide in the end to host my own custom app based on a business directory website system. Again it's not camping specific but allows us to catalogue all the places we've been on a map display with photos...
