We had an Alfa Romeo Shed, sorry, Guilletta, and SHMBO bought a specialist folding dog ramp to get the older and fatter of our two Samoyeds into the boot, the dog took one look and wouldn’t go near it! Still kept putting her paws on the bumper and waited to be “boosted” into the boot!

I know I'm late to this thread, but the best way to train the dog is putting the ramp on the floor in the lounge or other area the dog is very familiar with (at home), and practise walking on it. Use a lead to guide them. After a few days, raise one end and repeat.

We trained a very elderly, scared dog this way. WHen it came time to use it on the car, she just scampered straight up and in.

We did the same thing. At one point our dog curled up on the ramp and gave us a look which seemed to say “thanks for my new basket, it’s a bit hard but I’ll get used to it” 🐶😂.

Just found this thread as our Spaniel didn't like the steps up into or out of, our motorhome! He launched himself out 🙈🤣. Our Golden Retriever will really struggle! Ramp it is.

PS. If you're using a ramp, I found it best to train the dog with the ramp flat on the floor. I did it in the lounge over a few evenings. Then gradually raised one end. By the time I put it on the car boot, she just scampered up.
