We have got our 10 year old cocker booked in for Wednesday, looking at the internet it scares you to death when looking at after effects of the injection . Has anyone had a bad experience or can give me your experience of the jab.

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
When my 7 yr old Westie had the jab he never showed any effects at all.
You can scare yourself half to death looking at most things on t'internet.

Our old dog was nearly 16 when she had the rabies jab. No problem at all and she enjoyed her one and only trip abroad in the motorhome. If you read any medication leaflets they have to list all possible side effects and you'd never dare take anything.

Rosie is due for her first booster this year, first one she had a bad reaction - whenever the vet gives her a jab, she gets a treat. The locum vet neglected this, Rosie soon reminded him of the error of his ways! :D

If it does cause 'side effects', and i'm not saying it does, its more likely to be evident later on in life after many years of 'boosters'. Our last dog was one of the first to get a passport and at that time the rabies injection was given annually. He also had other vaccine boosters over the years. I often wonder if this contributed to his endocrine system being 'shot'. He developed an underactive thyroid, diabetes and cushings syndrome. I can never prove that this was due to these vaccines but now feel a lot better with the introduction of rabies boosters every 3 years. Vets keep reminding me that he is due his annual booster for other vaccines but there is considerable evidence that these are not necessary every 12 months so I am presently ignoring this whilst I research the 'evidence'. Would not suggest that others adopt a similar approach its up to each person to decide whats best but I can't help wonder why I didn't get annual boosters for all of my childhood vaccines.

Check how much your vet is charging for the whole thing as the costs vary massively and you are under no obligation to use your 'usual' vet for it.

Our four month old Newfoundland had the jab, no ill effects what so ever. Recommended by both the Breeder who's son was training to be a vet and our local vet also suggested we get him vaccinated.
