Year 3 of ownership !
I have enquired about taking the motorhome to France in August, with my wife, daughter and dog. £180 return :cry: BIG MISTAKE.

A dog passport will cost in the region of £150- £180. Plus 6 months wait from Defra to be able to take him :Eeek:

What a conn ! £15 to take the dog on the ferry.

We're of to Scotland instead ::bigsmile:

£15 thats cheap just cost me £30 with P & O and the same on the Euro tunnel last year. You can go as soon as you get the passport but you cant get back into uk till the 6 months is up.Passport + chipping cost about £180 and it cost us 55 Euro for the vet fee before you can get back. So yes much better in scotland lol except for the rain and midges...:thumb:

Try getting Great Danes done.

Worth every penny once the passport is sorted.

Keep the passport up to date or you have to go through the procedure all over again.

Great when you can take the pets with you in europe :thumb:

After our two dogs had their rabies vaccs & then there was the six month wait we went to Scotland - awesome scenery :thumb: we were so lucky with the weather it was hot ! not so lucky with the midges even one of the dogs got bitten !

Our dogs have just had their rabies booster and great news - the next booster is not due for three years now ::bigsmile: (used to be every two years)

So ....Scotland first .... then France there you go :thumb:

we always put our dogs in kennels. they need a break from us, as well as us from them, but it does get expensive with 4 of 'em.(2 retrievers and 2 jack russells)
loads of new friends, bark as loud as they want and regular walks regardless of the weather.:thumb:
and when you go to collect them they love you even more.::bigsmile:

Have a look at the anti -rabies vaccination recorded in the Pets Passport.

Check the validity period eg when it expires, some are for two years and some are for 3 years. You can adhere to the validity date so long as you are NOT in France for 3 months or more. If you are then the rules of the country apply eg: yearly vaccination.

We have toured in Europe for 3 or 4 months, though not in anyone country for 3 months or more. Our pets anti-rabies vaccination had a two year validity and we have had NO prolems returning to UK. Our dog last had her booster Aug 2007 so that means it is only due Aug 2009.

It is important to note that the booster must be done before the given date and not on the given date eg, if vaccinated 10th Aug have the booster done on 9th Aug or before. Leave it too late and you will have to start the pets passport all over again!

Also refer to Defra's website for any new info.
