Hi Guys. We are off to Spain in January for 10 weeks (Alannia Costa Blanca 15 miles south of Alicante). Our dog eats Harringtons wet grain free dog food. Only a small poodle but knows what he likes. We were going to take enough for the holiday but now understand we cannot take meat products into Europe. Any help or advise would be welcome

I've no personal experience, but from reading reports, customs couldn't care less about dog food or sausages.
I suppose it depends on how law abiding you wish to be ?
But bare in mind there is always a chance of getting searched, so keep that in mind.

Follow the “law” and don’t it.

Or

break the “law” and take what you need with the plan you may have it confiscated and possibly be fined.

We just take the food, and are willing to be told of if it happens. We don’t hide it though as I don’t think that would go well If discovered.

We are taking 45kg with us this winter, I have a secret locker I used to use when doing drug runs I will stash the Edens dog food in there 🤞

As I understand it you can take fish dog food no problem, so long as it doesn’t have meat in it. James wellbeloved and also skinners both do fish, grain free dog food kibble, I’ve just transitioned our dog onto the James wellbeloved fish based junior one, so that we can take some with us when we go away. Skinners do a salmon wet food too.

I can’t really comment re Spain but we were in France last month and honestly, nobody cares. It’s just dog food, for your own dog. The same with food in your fridge and freezer.
There have been far too many scare stories both in the media and on here.
I suppose technically you shouldn’t take things on the list of not allowed but the rules are aimed at commercial enterprises not just a couple going on their holidays. We had no trouble whatsoever going into or out of France. We had a freezer full of bacon, sausage and burgers from our butcher. We give them to our son. We had a months worth of dog food, both meat and dried stuff. Nobody asked or looked.
Like I said, scare stories. Some on here like to make life difficult but lots can tell you it’s not. Don’t worry about it.
Have a great trip.

Our dog only eats one type of grain free dog food and we take enough with us for the trip wherever we're going.

I can't imagine customs officials checking vehicles for tins of dog food.
