Been looking to buy some clippers for our cockerpoo but not very clued up .
I used my old wahl clippers while we were away in spain to keep on top of things but these are about had it and fight there way through Tazzy's coat .
I took the plunge a few days ago and ordered some Andis Ultraedge cuz i'd read good things about them but questioning now IF theyre even genuine items as they look different to what i ordered .
Any advice much appreciated.

It sounds as if your blades are blunt.
As Poki says, you should be able to buy replacement blades.
I'm guessing that you can't get the blades sharpened on smaller clippers the way you can with horse clippers, but I don't know.

I did toy with new blades for my wahls but i have dropped them in the past and theyre abit noisy so wanted to replace them really.
So it seems i can get replacement blades or have them sharpened professionally if i buy a decent make .
I wouldnt trust myself sharpening them .

Ahh....thats awesome thanks dazandandrea (y)
The ones i bought after some research were the very same as you have but when they arrived they looked different to the pictures on the advert so i was questioning if they were fake.
Now looking at yours i feel a little more reassured. ....they were from burtonsgroomingdirect -

Burtons grooming are a reputable company so they should be good. You will need sharp blades - so either new blades or your existing ones sharpened. Are you going to use blades to set the length or use attachment combs? The metal attachment combs are the best, plastic ones are useless!

preparation is key, have you got a decent blaster to dry the coat? You will need to lift the coat with a slicker and dry it as straight as you can.

Mandy was trained as a dog groomer and clips our Cockapoo. She swears by Wahl dog clippers which are approx £30, they are as good as the expensive ones plus you can buy replacement blades, but we just buy a new clipper when they go blunt.

My thought was to use combs but if blades are better then i'm not opposed to buying whatever is needed .
I dont have a blaster (just a hair dryer) and am a complete novice to all this so any advice is much appreciated.
We do have a slicker (y)

Been paying £67 every 6 weeks for our poo to be groomed so if i can invest a little time and money i reckon it'll be worth it .

We use the Wahl KMSS on our Cockerpoo. Had to learn how to do it during lockdown. Still can't get it as good as professional groomers but okay for extended trips.

We have tried all sorts on our cockapoo. They have to be dead sharp and aligned perfectly otherwise it take 3 days instead of 2. Wahl are at the budget end but they are ok for 2 dog 3 times a year if you keep then aligned, oiled and sharp. They don't work so well because if the combs.

The professional clippers all use a common blade type. Andis and Oster. We have some Oster ones but even they struggle if she is matted. Make sure you do t get the fine blades. They always have an F after the size. E.g 5F or 5 . Just get 5

Thanks Tizzyontour , i did 2 or 3 cuts on our Taz while we were away in france/Spain earlier in the year and like dazandandrea said it also saves money and no appointment needed.. Bonus (y)
I'm always amazed how quickly she needs cutting again!!
I think theres defo some credit to be given to people who can do it properly and make it look good .
I can admit to being abit daunted by cutting around Taz's face incase i spoil 'her look' :giggle:

Thanks for the advice gpat (y)

Dandm - i've always been happy with my Wahl i use on my head 🧑‍🦲 and i think i paid £30 for them years ago .
New blades from what i've seen are about the same money so no brainer just to buy a new set .

I have a never used blower for sale. Bought one as our cockapoo takes so long to dry after a wash and my hairdryer next to useless on her and she hates it. Bought the blower thinking that motor would be further away from her on the floor so she might tolerate it. No go, even with 2 of us trying to hold her.
Have solved the problem by putting an Equafleece on her and washing that instead 😀
Don’t know if you are anywhere near Bristol ?

if you buy attachment combs you will just need one blade to go under them, and you can usually buy the combs either singly or in a set. You can use a 10 15 or a 30 blade under the combs. a 15 gives best results in my experience. 30 blades can break teeth off under combs. A blaster will give you the best chance of being able to dry the hair straight and give the best results.

Hi Annie , like yours ours doesn't tolerate the drying thing very well and shakes like a leaf.
Always comes back from the groomers still damp .

Zoobec - the Andis come with a 10F so i'm gonna start with that and buy combs (to start with at least) . i have lots to learn but keen to do a decent job on my little ginger monkey .
Lots of Youtube in days to come i reckon. 🤓.

Sounds good. The Oster metal combs come with a couple of longer attachments but the Wahl metal ones have a better range of shorter combs. Look up Lovemud dog lady for videos.

Teddy has a very strange coat.....he only has to stand and it goes into tight cotters and can't be brushed out so we bought some electric clippers.
Plugged em in, switched em on and he ran a mile.
Can't even hold him down.
I resorted to stroking him and finding a cotter then snipping it off with the scissors.
Waste of money.
Next option ....dog groomers and pay.

Long time
I got these 2017 from Amazon, they recharge quickly, from mains, and charge lasts a long time.
After I use them they sit for quite a while before they get used again and they keep the charge, 60mins of use fully charged.
They’ve been used on both of us and a dog.
