What's your opinion on the dog cages on the ferry to Spain have you used them would you do it again yes or no & are the 10kg ones suitable cheers Rod

Have used them. We'll we haven't but pip the dog has. Don't like using them. But there fine. But we like pip in the cabin. But you do need to book a pet friendly came as soon as they come out

The kennels on the new ships are huge, a 'small' one had plenty of room for both our dogs, which are 9 & 11.5 kg respectively. They are easy to use as well, no clambering to the top deck.

when are you going to Spain? There are some Pete friendly cabins currently available on Pont Aven
Hi early October I think all the pet friendly cabins have all gone unless I am looking in the wrong place cheers Rod

I looked for October and they were all gone on the runs to Spain. Wedding anniversary on 7th and always like to be away... 🫤
Agh, ok.

They were available when I checked last week. Seems the earliest now, unless someone cancels is the 23rd

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear in post 14?
No problems whatsoever for us as the dogs settled down nicely. The real problem was the anxious owners checking their dogs every five minutes, thus setting them off.

I have used them once - never again!!! They are not nice at all and the dogs were very unhappy. We always get a pet friendly cabin now.

The cages are just that - cages! They're set along a wall, two high, looking a bit like canine Porridge. But to a dog, they're just a place to stay. If your dog is, used to being separated from you, they'll be fine straightaway, if not they may take longer to get used to being banged up.
The real problem is the "exercise area", or poop deck if you prefer. On the Pont Aven they ha e an open space the width of the ship - the helicopter landing pad. On the Galicia, which we've just used, you and they are concined to a dank dark corridor y the lifeboats, with barely a dozen chairs for humans. And it stank of wee, ecause there were so many nooks and crannies where it was diffi ult to wash it away. Steerage class for first class money!

Our dog, 8.5 kgs HATED the kennels. He upended his water and was clearly very distressed. Since then we have always stuck out for a dog friendly cabin and no problems there. I think it depends on the dog, and not necessarily the quality or size of the kennel.

Used the cages on the Pont Aven to go from Roscoff to Cork, definately will not use them again. Nothing wrong in terms of size etc., but it only takes one nervous/scared dog to set off a train reaction to unsettle all the other dogs; ours was unsettled and distant with us for a week afterwards. Won't say what we did on the Return voyage but we didn't use the Kennel facility.

Hi Rod The last time we used a cage on the pont aven the crossing was so rough they advised people not to visit there dogs. Our German shepherd travelled well but a lot of the dogs were very distressed. Our last trip they opened an emergency cabin for us and our now small dog and cat and was much better.

Had our Lab in a "large" kennel coming back in 2018 as the dog cabins were booked. Not great at all ,agree with all the other negatives.Trying to get our fretting dog out for exercise, without damaging his legs, was a nightmare. I'd rather drive up to the Channel ports than do it again. We booked dog cabin well in advance for this year.

They usually come on line end of this month or early July, you have to be quick they sell out fast.
