I've been doing some planning for a trip to Spain and Portugal and I noticed on the Fuente De cable car website that dogs are only allowed if they're in a carrier. Are we likely to encounter other facilities where the dog would need to be a carrier?

That’s a strange requirement. Most dogs couldn’t be carried. Ours is a medium sized dog but he weighs 23 kg.

I don't think they have to physically carried on the cable car, rather they have to placed inside a carrier which itself incurs an extra charge.

Sorry Southdowners, just reread your reply, I see what you mean. Yes, our dog weighs 14 kg, I wouldn't want to have to carry her very far!

Your dog should be tethered whilst your vehicle is in motion, so not to cause driver distraction...🐶👍🇪🇦

We wouldn't have bothered visiting northern Spain again with a dog they're very dog unfriendly especially big ones.
We found the opposite on the Costa Brava in the Summer.

They all loved our lab, no problems taking him into bars and restaurants.

There was even a dedicated dog beach

A few weeks ago I read of two trials being done, somewhere in Spain, to allow larger dogs to travel on public transport. I wish I'd saved it now, but it seems things are moving forwards.

There is also a dedicated dog beach near Bolnuevo, and a few others nearby. On Sunday the local dog rescue group has a doggy get together. The dogs love it and, guess what, I can't find their photos.

Note to self: must save everything I read that someone, someday, might be interested in 😂

In northern Spain we couldn't even get on the tourist train with a dog or into bars/ restraunts. We had to sit in the smoking area outside.

It was August so we wanted to sit outside anyway but I didn’t see any anti dog sentiments to be honest - quite the opposite.

Lots of Spanish , mainly women would come up to us and give him lots of attention. I suggested to my wife that actually I rather than the dog was the attraction. An idea that my wife thought was absurd :giggle:

It could be different in different areas. We weren't allowed to take him in anywhere I got the idea that the idea of a large dog as a pet was a bit of a difficult thing to get their heads around. Areas in the UK vary a fair bit too when we lived in Leicester a lot of pubs said they couldn't allow dogs in because they did food!. When we moved to civilisation almost everywhere allows dogs in.

Portugal appeared to be very dog unfriendly..
You still need a carrier cage to access buses and taxis we’ve just found out, poor dog had to walk back and the poodle wasn’t too happy either 😂😂😂😂
