Hiya peoples.. I know you are almost all dog owners by he number of cute photos and posts: but wondering if it is possible to take out 2 cats away for the odd over night stay in the motorhome instead of getting a cat sitter. We were planning to get them harnesses so they could not run free inside: and not to let them out when we camped. They are young cats at the moment and we are toying with idea of getting them used to the van so we have the option of taking them to France if this is successful.
We have seen many French cat [and ferret ] lovers with their pets en vacance... any one else had any experience with this?

Yes I have taken my current cat away, she loves it. In the past I've taken other cats away on my boat. You need cat braces and leads, yes they will walk on them. Best to use Catsan in the litter tray with a liner, just throw away every day.(y)(y)

We use to take Baldrick with us. Only short trips locally. He loved it. Always got into the van when it was parked on the driveway, just in case we headed off somewhere...

hI kIRSTEN, Lots of Funsters take their cat/s with them in the motorhome. Some only take them out on leads for a walk but many just open their mh door and the cats don't stray far.... I, too, have seen a ferret and one funster took their guinea pigs.

Hi ,Yes our cat has about ten trips to France with our two yorkies and lots of meets at home and she loves every minute of it .When traveling she is always kept in her cage ,When not traveling she loves the dashboard. We do not let her out unless on a lead in case a stray dog creeps up on her .She is very clean .goes to the door if she needs the toilet and we keep a litter tray under the door outside .No problem ,go for it lol

Hi, our cat doesn't mind the travelling, and the cat basket and covered litter box fill our shower tray. She has a harness to have a little walk around the pitch (too nervous to socialise) we have toys for her and she plays fetch running up and down the van. She loves the SUN too. Our previous cat would go off without a harness and come back at will. This one would run and hide (lost her 2 days in germany last year) so harness required at all times. She sits happy in her igloo in or near the awning or door. Keep phone number on her id tag.

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........
Yes we had two ( one was 21 years old, but died last year ) and the other is 10 years old and now rules...... We have been across EU and to date not had a problem. Our current one is happy in MH and will come as far as the hab door and sometimes into the awning when out. When we have visitors they are surprised to see a cat.

We take our old moggie on our European trips and she is fine prefers it when we are set up and the sun is warming her old bones.
We are away in the summer for around 10/11 weeks so leaving her behind isn't an option suits us .....

No cats not Outdoored not yet- but we will use the harnesses when we first go into the garden with them; and then try to get them used to the van as an enclosed space before they go out in the garden unsupervised. They have had all their inoculations now- just waiting until we get back from ski ing [not in van] without them before we introduce them to The Wide World . We have always had cats- one was half siamese and came on holiday with us in the car to cottages before we were campers. Been without a cat for a year since our oldest one died aged 20. Would be a whole new dimension camping with cats! Maybe cats AND grandchildren... possibilities are endless....but we will take every care with them Mr J Mental xxx
