The site itself is very good - picturesque and well set, unlike the somewhat characterless carparks that many CC sites have become. The terraced pitches higher up the site are my favourites, and you stand a good chance of being visited by red squirrels.
I assume you know it is a 'bogless' site.
The location itself is a bit out of the way for getting to places - not outstanding for anything more than a weekend (though good for that) unless you want to drive out every day (in which case it is a good location). The are a couple of good local walks, but cycling is a good option, with Loweswater and Ennerdale good trips, and the mainly off-road national cycle route to Whitehaven a good slid day out (but steadily uphill on the way back).
There is a small shop in the commercial site adjacent, and the nearest pub (assuming it is still open) is the Lamplugh Tip, which is walkable in the evening. The word of caution is there because it was closed for some time after our first visit, but had just reopened and been a bit refurbished on our last. It did real ale and decent food, and it looks like it is still open, but you never know.
There are a number of other good eating places within a short drive.
