Doc on tour, France, Spain, Morroco.

The following lyrics immediately sprung to mind when I saw this.
“And if you think I'll eat your fish 'n' chips
I tell ya, you're mistaken.” 😏😆
Have to say, they do look guid, though. 👍
There's not many on here would know of McAlpines Fusiliers.... 😉🇮🇪

Where they brickies
Everything they were the navvies Irish immigrants that came over after WWII to help rebuild London and other major cities but they ended up all over the place (probably why so many MHF members can get Irish passports ) 😂

We had an.issue years sgo with a customer having crap brakes after we changed the frontt pads and it turned out to be the new pads were lined with a very hard material which wasn't creati g the right friction to brake properly I also seem to remember that brake pads harden over time so this might be your issue Tam and it's probably a cheaper trial option than s master cylinder

I'm sure that Tam has already stripped the brakes down, freed up the calipers (front and rear), cleaned the discs, and changed the pads all round. The rear shoes and drums are for the handbrake only.
So, if it was the new pads at fault, why would the pedal hit the floor on one application, but be solid on another? 🤷‍♂️ That to me feels more like hydraulics.
A genuine question by the way.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Tam just get your hand in your pocket and get it done. It’s only money which you have anyway. Ask yourself what’s more important.
1= Good brakes and a life.👍
2= A written off Doc due to no brakes🫣
3=Possible Death🫣
I know which one I would choose. 👍

Trouble with Tam , he asks something, someone will suggest something then he spends days saying why it cant be that instead of getting it looked at, and a lot of people don't suggest something in case they upset him which is very easy to do.
So I'm afraid all we can do is wait till he makes his own mind up, anything anyone on here says won't make a blind bit of difference. :(

And some comments are really unhelpful.

I don't think it's just that, my van is half the size of Tam's and I know the problems of finding somewhere that can/will deal with it.
Many times I would have loved to just book it in somewhere and get something done, but it's not always that easy.
Forget the Scottish origin, it's not always just about money!!

That’s a bit harsh.

We all have different ways of thinking things through, Tam’s is very public but reading it is optional. Many of us talk things through with our partners, I suspect this is his equivalent.

Personally I have always thought it’s a good idea to listen to advice from anyone that offers it, but and it’s a big but, you don’t have to take it. So I never get offended if I offer someone advice and they decide to do something different.

Fortunately for Tam I know nothing about mechanics so he’s not getting much from me. Emergency medicine or history then I might be of some help 😂

But you are not Tam.

The symptoms may be at least partially explained by a failing reservoir shut-off seal. The first movement of the mc when braking closes the reservoir feed. If it doesn't, or does but only partially, a soft pedal or no pedal results. And it can be intermittent.

I know so many good theories have been put forward.
Has anyone suggested a collapsed brake hose?
Or hose to servo?
I had same issue on my Moby as Tam with losing brakes, pedal to the floor descending the Pyrenees. It was caused by handbrake shoe binding, nothing else.
Easy to check on mine as I have single rear wheels.

Don't worry, the moroccans will have it on a wobbly bottle jack on the side of the road in no time :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

You have an internal leak in the master cylinder. The fluid is passing by the internal piston seals and not holding the braking pressure. There is no loss of fluid because it is not leaking out. You have two choices, get the master cylinder refurbished (you can get a seal kit) or replace it (probably the best choice due to the age of the vehicle.
So this is my question. If there's an internal leak where is the fluid going .. and why is the level not dropping.

I want to change the master cylinder just in case

But

I don't want a tiny garage in the middle of a small village to attempt the job incase
A) they have no knowledge
B) they can't get the part for days or weeks by which point I'm stranded in a busy village with 4 dogs.
At the mercy of every seller ,child and stray who sees the big tourist as a target.

Wouldn't it make sense to get it done when you get the paint job?

From what I read the seals are leaking so the fluid is just going back behind the plunger or whatever it's called so not pressurising as it should but not leaking out the system.

You could contact Iveco, see if they have one first?

Considering the other jobs you've taken on changing a master cylinder is fairly straightforward, you only need someone to help you bleed it.

Alright big yin 🙂
I haven't read through all the earlier posts but I'll be in Spain tomorrow morning and probably spend a week or so fecking about towards Carlos so am I picking up this master cylinder thing or what am I doing? Lol
