Doc on tour, France, Spain, Morroco.

Was under the impression that Europeans can come here for 6 months at a time. Don't think though , that this is the right place for this, maybe start one yourself?
Yes, they can. 👍

Ian
Yes and we should have negotiated that same deal at least.

But I secretly wonder if they don't want brits spending their money outside the UK for months .

That's why there's so many negative headlines in the UK press about holiday destinations. They make out sometimes that its specifically British tourists being targeted when really it isn't. Brits aren't the only ones with by to let properties throughout Spain etc .

They want everyone back in Blackpool and scunthorpe lol

You sure Tam you don’t have two Polarsteps going. Sounds like you doesn’t it at times

Whilst the PM is renegotiating perhaps you should write and request he sorts out travel problems with 90/180 for you all. I’m sure most on her would countersign it
Nope just other brits Carol.

I've said it before there's no way people can't see the stuff here .. its everywhere you look.

Just back from our walk along the beach ...half way along I came across this that wasn't there yesterday .

I'm now torn ....do I go back and Bury it ? But where ?

Thats so sad, I wouldnt be able to walk away, I would have to bury it. Poor soul.
I want to bury it but the only soft ground in this country is the sand on beaches hence them burying the Fiddlesticksin rubbish on them ....granted its usually the bits most beach goers don't walk to but fisherman and dog walkers do .

But I'm not sure I can just dig a hole in the beach and Bury a dead dog.

But no one is making any attempt to move it and if locals move it they'll throw him in the bin which is very sad ( although the bin will get buried at the far end of the beach later anyway )

It just doesn't seem right

Not sure what killed it but I've walked the full length of the beach twice daily since arriving here

Totally understand the predicament on where to bury it, I would try and find some part of the beach area that isnt frequented too well, its difficult without knowing the area. Difficult situation you are in unfortunately.

The thing is we don't know what it died from and Tam has his own dogs to think of, so I wouldn't advise going anywhere near it. It will be consumed by local wildlife (foxes, vultures etc.) Over the next week or so.

I've never been to Morocco and following some descriptions on here I have no wish too. I have been to Turkye and its much better, but much of it is very cold in the winter. I shall just have to put up with 90/180 I think.
We have been 6 times, three times on a Motorbike and another three times just flying in and hiring a car and driving where ever the urge took us. In all those times we only felt uncomfortable once when we rode into a village and something was kicking off, we left PDQ. Other than that we have had a fantastic time. The people were lovely, great scenery and lots of interesting buildings and historic sites to explore. Driving is interesting, but no big deal. You can get hassle, but be firm and polite & they soon get the message. We would have no hesitation in going again if we get chance.
I guess some some places just don't suit some people, seems to be similar story with Egypt. We have visited at least once a year for the past 20 years other than through Covid. Again a lot of people say they would never go again as they don't like the country or the people. Our experience has been the polar opposite.

Having worked in the middle east I think I can safely say that in a lot of places they have a very casual attitude to the death of animals and even possibly humans, where I worked was about half an hours drive from where we lived, mostly on unlit dual carriage way through dessert country side, it was quite common to see dead animals at the side of the road including a camel on one occasion that had been hit by a pick-up truck, the camel had landed on the cab and crushed it, i've no idea if the occupants survived but the camel and pick-up truck were there at the side of the road for ages, no one cares or does anything about it sadly.

I think a lot of peaple forget that this is the way they live with the rubbish etc and it’s their country. If they all get westernised then the whole world would be the same and we would all eat the same. When I travel I like to see how the other countries live and try their food. I might not like it but then it’s my choice to go there or not. 👍

Yes unfortunately it's like I can take my dogs of the street but you can't take the street out the dogs ...they will always still scavenge etc

And I think the culture thing here is used to living in a shithole and unfortunately if they go live somewhere else it too becomes a shithole.

But to be fair it isn't just immigrants.

I remember one of the first flats I bought ,it was in a reasonably good area . But there were still many council flats in the streets around. When the council demolished and re developed one very bad area they re housed the people in various other streets that were up and coming in the hope that would encourage the people to live better ...sadly it didn't they just brought the area down , gardens like dumping grounds, broken knackered cars outside and in the drives. Loud music bins never emptied etc etc.

Makes a complete joke of all the environmental shit we've to put up with in the UK though as these countries counteract any progress made .

There could easily be a recycling system and waste disposal plan introduced here but there isn't.

The bins get collected and often surface dumped on beaches or woodland , sometimes they Bury it in the sand and the tide washes it out to sea and other times they just take their bag of rubbish to a spot and set fire to it and walk away .

There's trash everywhere.

And the ground around the markets is filthy with rotten fruit and veg just left on the ground , greasy smelly water from cooking or fish etc .

Even the supermarkets there's a nasty smell in some of the aisles either from spilled stuff that's not been cleaned up or from not changing the water in the mop buckets often enough ... its just a very dirty country. There's not a single restaurant, food stall or shop here would pass an inspection by the food standards we have in the UK.

Once you see it you can't unsee it sadly .

There is beautiful scenery here, there's not a lot of great architecture....its quite dull in that respect. Buildings aren't that interesting on the whole , I only really find the people who want to sell you something or want something from you to be friendly the rest are not...and the ones trying to sell you things are friendly till you say no then they change quite a bit ...I think I've been cursed under breath quite a few times.. the drivers are terrible, the lorry drivers and taxi drivers are lethal and they will barge you out the way. There doesn't seem to be any real thought for life... cyclists, pedestrians and folk using donkey drawn buggies etc risk their lives everytime they cross a road... there's zebra crossings buy no one ever stops at them ...I've seen folk nearly mown down by these taxis .

It's one country where i can categorically state I could never ever live in .

If it wasn't for shengen I'd be out of here by now .. but I can't wait to get back to Spain and civilisation.
It seems to me from your postings that your three biggest personal life rules/values are social order, spotless cleanliness and animal protection, and therefore Morocco being the absolute polar opposite to those values with their chaotic/unpredictable life, rubbish dumping and indifference to animals makes it so unbearable for you... I definitely wouldn't recommend you going to India, I think you're head would explode... :)

So, maybe the way forward is to return to Europe and apply for Swiss citizenship - I suspect that'd be your real spiritual home :)

I have gained the same impression of Morocco and would not want to go there. As for Turkey I have several reasons not to go there.

Cyprus is currently an option to avoid Schengen but if their government has its way they will join Schengen in 2025. I wonder if Cyprus can make a special deal for UK Citizens or whether one can avoid the 90/180 rule if one is visiting the British Sovereign Bases of Dhekalia and Akrotiri?

I've never had much desire to go to India to be honest.

I said last time I was here I wouldn't be back , I had second thoughts before I came back. I came for 2 reasons , paintwork and shengen time. But I knew after only a few days here I definitely will not be back a third time.

Wasn't keen on Switzerland either though.

Best thing that could happen is a reversal of the 2016 mistake. Then I'd not need to bother with places like this shithole.

You can't stay in Cyprus for more than 90 days on a British passport (legally).

  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Belarus
  • Bosnia & Herzegovina
  • Macedonia
  • Moldova
  • Montenegro
  • Serbia
  • Ukraine
  • United Kingdom

Montenegro is said to be quite nice and one could use it as a base and travel into the nearby other countries on the list. Might not be very warm though.

Montenegro from what i saw of it is very beautiful, mountains and scenery but I was there October/November and it was cold and wet ...so was Albania which I didn't like as much .

Azerbaijan would be good to visit, it's quite prosperous but you need special permission to enter via a land border with your own vehicle and I think you're only allowed 30 days. My Niece's husband is Azerbaijani and i've seen some photos, it looks nice especially in the mountains.
