More than toes wet now!
Here's the screen in Avast where you disable data collection.
How effective that is, who knows!

I'm a newbie
Does this mean that I should delete this antivirus from my PC?

I have used AVG free for years and so far it has worked well. They keep trying to get me to upgrade to the paid for version but, as a Yorkshireman, I have resisted, I'm not sure what they do with my data but since I only do boring things on line I'm not too worried, I have an Amazon Echo as well and if anyone is listening in to Kathy and myself saying to each other "I didn't hear that speak up" "eh" "what was that" etc.etc. they will soon get bored

Used it for a few years but now use Bitdefender Total Security 5 devices. There are some good deals and it seems to get good reviews. On phones, tablet and PC and have had no issues to date.

Agreed. On windows the built in free microsoft one has a good reputation...
Moved one laptop onto MS from Avast a month or two back. Also dumped ZoneAlarm for MS with a Malwarebytes overlay as a trial. Think the rest will be following suit shortly although moving more and more towards Linux.

Same here, my thinking is that Microsoft defender is developed by Microsoft for Windows so it should be reliable, had no problems with it. I have the free Sophos AV on my mac and Norton free on my Android phone and tablet. I recently put Linux Mint on my mother's old Vista laptop which has greatly improved it, I did install AV on that but I can't remember which. For extra malware security I have Malwarebutes free version on my Windows and Mac laptops.
