Thanks for the heads up Karl. Fortunately my NAS box is too old to have one of these chips and is already 5 years old and still going strong.

First thought - oh bugger - I have a Synology NAS box just coming up to 14 months continuous up time.

Second thought - phew! It's a DS-416, which according to the data sheet has a Annapurna Labs Alpine AL-212 dual-core 104GH CPU. Never heard of one of those before, but at least it's not a C2000 series Atom - unless there has been some re-badging going on. :unsure:

I really must get round to updating the operating system on it. Synology released a major new version about a year ago, but early on it seemed to have quite a few problems, so I was in the 'If it ain't broke .....' camp for a while. Time to see if it's more stable now, because it did have some handy new features. Not that I can remember what they were now, so they can't have been that vital! :D

Phew! bought a Lenovo ix2 NAS drive last week, just checked it uses a Marvell processor.

That would have been nice it it were true. Not sure how that typo slipped through, but 1.4GHz is sadly more realistic! :rolleyes:
