Do you dress your dog? (1 Viewer)

Katie wants me to buy a Christmas jumper for our Dog! I've so far refused the badgering to get one, but I'm weakening.

Apart from a Christmas hat on old Rocky the German Shepherd a long time ago, I've never dressed a dog in human clobber and unlikely to start now.

We have been looking to get a high Viz jacket since were told about a dog being knocked down and killed after a minor crash last year.

And we make him wear a life jacket when we are on the boat

But I do think that if you have a little "ratty" thing then you may as well dress it up like a clown, after all every on is sniggering behind your back anyway when you refer to "rattty" as your "dog"

Our dogs have quite an extensive wardrobe ranging from thin nylon waterproof coat through to jumpers and fleeces for winter.

But our dogs are greyhounds and they most definitely feel the cold, they are under 17% body fat, and have very thin fur so it’s pretty important to make sure they keep warm.

But I’d not dress a dog just for the sake of it like so many celebs seem to do with their handbag dogs...

Bandanas soaked in water in the summer to prevent overheating

Mid weight “ kennel coats”

In a coat - yes

But I draw the line at making him look stupid.

However, my Mother-in-law doesn't. A few years ago she bought him a tight black t shirt with a silver sparkly cross-bones on it. He looked the campest dog ever. That got "lost" quite quickly.

Then last Xmas she bought him a red tie on elastic. Well, he loved that and wouldn't take it off for two weeks. You have no idea how daft I felt walking a huge Staff with a bright red tie on

Our border collie's certainly don't need an additional coat, they've both got particularly thick coats. I was on one of our local country estates a few days ago & even though there was 6inches of snow my mutt wanted to go swimming! Needless to say I didn't let her go. Photo taken in warmer weather.

She hates hates wearing even a harness and a waterproof coat......huh!

I'm definitely looking out for a Christmas jumper for millie..if only because I know it will wind the kids up when they get home. She does have an extensive bandana collection but for some reason isn't keen on wearing her antlers..

Here is this year's xmas coat , he also has a santa's hat and a xmas neck ruffle .... L'il Tom being Portugese also has a selection of clothes though as he does feel the cold very much ...even has a dressing gown that was kindly given to him that we use at bath times lol

It's not only dogs you know, it happens to cats too.

Wibble took on the roll of guarding our garden against other cat intruders and would spend hour on duty, so for a laugh we bought him a little cat sized tee shirt with Security on it.
Not a very good photo as it was taken with a rubbish mobile phone I had at the time.

I don't like to see dogs in silly dresses and soppy coats......it's just wrong.............but I don't mind seeing them in normal doggie coats/high viz/life jackets (when on the water) Our poor old Sam (a Westie) is nearly 14, and I do have a coat for him, which he's not too keen on, but it's just a normal dog coat.

He can't walk far now, and I've said to OH I'll put Sam in my granddaughters old buggy when he gets tired.......OH said 'well I'm not pushing him' miserable old s*d....

We were in Devon last year having a cream tea, and a woman and her daughter sat next to us with a pram with 3 yorkshire terriers in it all dressed differently in frilly dresses and matching bonnets....poor dogs......
