I'm keen on a thermal window cover like the Silverscreen/Taylormade covers.

Because of the way they attach to the door frame I'm concerned they may pull on the rear of the frame with enough force to allow the door seal let water past in heavy rain.

What is the experience of users of these types of covers. Are these covers likely to increase the chance of the door seal leaking.

I'm in New Zealand and by the time we take into account the exchange rate, postage, taxes etc these are quite spendy so I'm trying to cover my bases before parting with my cash.

Thanks for any feedback.

My silver screens only have a 2" wide, single thickness fabric strip that loops diagonally over the top corner of the door and has never let any water in. The front screen cover velcro's onto the side covers, so doesn't need "trappng" in the door either.

Never found it a problem in my experience. I think the fact that they are "tailor made" to the vehicle ensure they are a near perfect fit and do not pull on the door.

We find ours allows water in in heavy rain. To prevent this is we just fasten the side flap in the door, leaving the top flap tucked between cover and door.

Never had any problems with the normal Taylormade one I have on my T25 VW or the extra long one with drop down privacy front panel on my Ducato which is used ALL year.

We've used these screens for at least 15 years, one of our first purchases, and I cannot recall any occasion where they caused a leak. The material that is pressed against the door seal is quite thin, but plenty robust enough not to tear. Although we've never had any problem, try to ensure you dry them out as soon as convenient if you have to pack them away wet (ours stand in the shower until we can).
I'd also recommend you go for the "long" version which cover the bonnet vents and also those with the mesh insert so that the outer blind can be opened, otherwise they can flap about a bit in the wind.

Ours are original silver screens, now on third van and nearly 16 years old, not designed for this or last model of Ducato but no problems with leaks.

We've got Taylormade long version screens for our Ducato based cab and only experience a very small drip once from the top of the door.:(
Now if the idiot (me!) had pulled them taught correctly and not left a fold in the single ply over the door it wouldn't have!

AlanB4 Yes we’ve had slight leaks with both makes but only when it is very heavy rain. I suspect most won’t even see, it as I likely didn’t for a number of years and I’ve had it with both.

I also have both makes and found that the longer length Taylormade was marking the bonnet of the latest version Ducato because, I think, it has a ridge above the headlight where the previous one doesn’t. Silver Screens say they won’t make a longer one because it will eventually mark the bonnet.

Also a word of warning I hadn’t used my Taylormade one for 3 years, preferring the shorter Silver Screens to carry in the PVC, so it was stored at home but very well sealed up in its bag, possibly air tight. I think this may have caused a deterioration in the fabric as when I used it last week it left sticky residue marks on the van at various pinch points and on the glass. Thankfully I managed to get them off with a lot of effort and cleanser. I’ve binned it as a result even though it was like new. Taylormade said they had never heard of this before.

We returned our Silverscreen cover earlier this year because they let water in… we tried lots of ways to fit and adjust them but it was no good. Shame because they looked and felt well made. Have to say they were very good about handling the return and refund.

We replaced Silver screen cover with Taylor Made, which has much more adjustment and it’s been fine… we’ve been in heavy rain with no water getting in. We have a 2024 MK9 Transit.

Your comment is very useful. Ours is a 2023 Dethleffs (not sure if that model year varies by country) on a Ford Transit.

When I search the VIN No I find the chassis is a 2019 which I guess is possible by the time the chassis is bought, the habitation fitted and the van shipped out here to New Zealand, with Covid in the middle of all of that. By looking at the grill ours is also Mk9.

I wish to clarify that I wasn't just picking on Silverscreen/Taylormade, I was just using their fitting method to explain my concerns. Polar, and I guess other manufacturers, also use a similar method.

Hi
I have been using a silver screen for the past 5 years on 2 different Fiat Ducato and never had any issues at all . 👍🏻
