Do PVC’s let rain water in their side door when the canopy is out? (1 Viewer)

On our previous C class MH the Fiamma canopy was fitted to the side wall, leaving a small gap for the rain to come down. Despite putting a gutter above the door, and then filling the gap with pipe insulation foam, we still never managed to always stop the rain coming into the door frame so it came inside when you opened the habitation door.

I know the canopies are fitted on the curve of the roof but what happens on the PVC’s in this regard and does anyone fit the Thule/Fiamma sealing rubber in the gap to prevent it, if so does it work?

Any help is appreciated
regards Roy

On our previous van we had the proper fiamma seal fitted, on this can the gap is sealed with sealant.
Both very efficient at stopping the rain but I could remove the Fiamma seal for cleaning or maintenance.

FUNSTER in a PVC
Depends on whether the awning is fitted to side of van or on the roof mountings, if on roof then it shouldn’t rain through

Not sure Otter Spotter where you would say this one is fitted compared to what you said as it seems to cover both

Fiamma do 3 sizes of rain guard to suit side mount through to roof mount.
Have Google of fiamma rain guard or look up the agentfiama Web pages.

Thanks for all your replies, it seems likely that we won’t have a problem on our new PVC when it comes and if so the rubber sealing strip will likely solve it.
In the old van when you opened the door the rain that had entered the gap at the top between the frame used to come inside and was a pain. I was hoping it would not be the same on a PVC. Learning more all the time 😊

On ours the awning is fitted to the roof mountings and rain ran off the roof into the open door. I fitted a rain channel above the door which solved the problem. Just a strip of tiling trim fitted with double sided sticky tape.

I don’t have a problem with the Thule awning on the side roof edge of the pvc. But there is also a led strip awning light over the door that may act as a gutter channel.

of course awning isn’t wide enough / far enough forward that if rain isn’t vertical it still comes in the doorway

What size is the gap?

We had a gap along the back of our awning (not on a pvc though) and got the fiamma gap filling strip. You just poke it in place.

They have a range of types and sizes.

No problem with our HymerCar and yes our Thule has a seal between the bodywork and the awning Cassette and no it does not let water pass

Since childhood!
Have a Fiamma on my PVC, with the official Fiamma drop stop between the cassette and the van. Never have any issues with rain getting between and coming through. I have also now bought a central rafter to stop rain pooling on the canopy, after an interesting experience in Holland during a torrential thunderstorm when I was lucky not to have the canopy fabric torn by the frame when the weight of water caused a partial collapse.
