my recently aquired winchcombe rolls around like a ship at sea and i thought maybe it needed some new rear shock absorbers but had a quick shufty and i cant see any .? all i saw was an anti roll bar

Check out the Autosleeper Forum, there seems to be a lot of posts about rear S/A's but I really couldn't say??

ok thanks

You need to fit airbags to replace the bump stops to resolve the problem. Fitting bigger leaf springs works, but gives a harsher ride

so am i right in thinking there are not any shocks on thr rear ??

Some don't, they rely on cart springs and progressive bump stop. Fine for a builders van, but not a motorhome

I haven't seen a light commercial without shocks for a very long time. Leaf springs have inherent damping but only if multi-leaf. A motorhome would be virtually undriveable without shocks.

Got to agree, a van of that size without shocks would be all over the place on bumpy roads.

Can you ask the question direct to Autosleeper?

What year is it? And is it a Mercedes base?

If it is on a merc sprinter base then yes it does have shock absorbers, and if it is like our Autosleeper Suffolk, rolls around alot. This seems to be a sprinter thing.
Our current sprinter based motorhome rolls less, because we had VB air from new. This transforms the ride of sprinters.

Learned not to whizz around bends, this gave a more predictable ride but still wallowy.

Shocks are only going to reduce the bounce and twitchiness and calm it down. They won't do a hell of a lot for body roll. You either need a stiffer anti roll bar or maybe semi-air to replace the bump stops.

My previous motorhome was on a Fiat lowline chassis. Horse and cart leaf springs but no shock absorbers as far as I can remember.

Our previous mh was a autotrail Apache 634 and that was fine, but I can see it's gonna need a semi air as it's a right wallowery old hector and just not good enough, and i suppose it will up the payload so hey ho, here we go again i suppose.

Springs and shockers are two different things and you generally need and will have both regardless off whether it's leaf springs or independent suspension .
