I've ordered a new longer piece of pipe as the extra 150mm I can accommodate may prove useful
750mm long pipe is only £8.99 delivered.
I wish I could find another of these now obsolete panel antennas.

Hopefully Adam "Addie" will try this with a current model panel

Could you not mount a dummy TV camera on top of the aerial, then when you swivel it round looking for a wifi signal then the others on the campsite near you will think your the cops undercover and the bad guys will keep well away from your van.

Or the top of a periscope, then you could tell people that you have a MH-Uboat hybrid.

I don't recall the aerial having any software. I think the software or driver comes with the repeater unit.

EDIT
In fact I don't remember installing anything at all. You just select the wifi connection on your laptop and enter the user name and password then open your browser and type in the IP address to open the interface.

The aerial usually has software but is only needed if plugging directly into a USB port in a laptop, even then W7 probably has driver built in. As you say nothing needed if using te access point.

So your using the faculty X as just an aerial not using the built in router. Is there an advantage doing it that way

Router may be the wrong word. I plug my Faculty x straight into my laptop. Why do you need the repeater jobby ?

BTW are you waterproofing the aerial ?

It is waterproof it is an outdoor antenna. Using a wifi wireless repeater hub means everyone or device in the van can connect wirelessly to the WWW. There would be nothing more inconvenient than having the USB cable strung across the van to plug into my lap top. Also Ipads Iphones etc do not have USB.
I hope that helps? Addie will give more professional advice

It's free
Setting the aerial up is always the hard part and now much easier to do indoors in all weathers and with extra height

I missed out the parts didn't I as I'd posted a start to this in another thread (n)
The acrylic 36mm OD pipe is from ebay (a specialist manufacturer of acrylic pipes) 500mm long £7.99 750mm long £8.99
The status aerial roof fitting I picked up two at Lincoln show for £5 each :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: (sold one to Adam)
The panel antenna I've had some years and now my memory is returning as Jezport said! I did initially use it plugged directly into the laptop (n) as I've found pictures of it in use in my galleries :p
These aerials used to sell for under £40 before being discontinued.
The plastic top cap for the pole is a the screw cap off a bottle of de ionised water.
The whole idea is improvisation and thus to give ideas for others to be more creative (y)

Well I use my ZTE MILF connected to the laptop via 'Bluetooth' the milf can be attached to the end my 2.0mtr carbon fibre rod, the milf allows 5 devices to be tethered from it it has worked very well to quite well from France to Croatia ,Sicily, Germany, Austria..etc

Great pictures. I too have one of these and plug it straight into my Lap Top. It comes with a long cable so I attach it to a bit of plastic tubing and strap that to my wing mirror assy. Takes about 3 minutes to erect from start to finish, including getting the best direction. I'm not convinced they are waterproof so enclose mine in a clear carrier bag (will last for a couple of weeks) which does not impact on the signal reception. I use dedicated software on my W7 LapTop other wise it will not work. The software I downloaded from RAELTEK.

It works a treat and I receive signals from near and far. However I think they have been superseded now and Andy's site has better more up to date ones.
Well worth buying.

It is water proof NOT submersible
The antenna is inside the top half of the enclosure. Any water gaining access in the bottom will simply drain out. It is not meant to be mounted upside down
