just packed up my 1991 kontiki swift for a 350 mile journey(maiden journey) to Loch Lomond for hogmany, only to find as we were about to set off that the wipers would not work.....apparently they are siezed due to the 'linkage being too tight', therefore the motor has burnt out and need a replacement.....

the next problem is finding a motor replacement..........

fiat cant find the part as they dont recognise the chassis number

next is that fiat dont make them anymore!!!

so can anyone help as to source a motor

next is having to go up there in my 4x4....great!

oh forgot to say ...have a happy new year everyone

shirl

in desperation you could get the original motor re-wound.

wont be cheap and you wont get it done this year but it is an option.

any half decent auto electrical shop will know of somewhere that can do it.

but something smells fishy here......why didnt the fuse blow ?

Sorry to hear of your predicament. As pappajohn says odd a fuse hasn't blown, suggest you check all your fuses and grease the mechanism and try and free it if you find a blown fuse. Good luck and happy new year.

You could try this forum http://www.fiatforum.com/ or try one of the scrap yards or parts locators online. the vans are quite common and I wouldnt think they would have changed the design of the wiper motor very often. It does seem odd that it didnt blow a fuse though.

good luck, John

thanks guys for your helpful suggestions.......I decided that the string thingy was not a good idea..lol, so went up in my hilux 4x4....it was a bit of a squeeze in my sister's hiace camper, but we are a very ''close'' family ...lol...(2 up 2 down) Loch Lomond was very cold and on returning to Leeds via Edinburgh we were caught up in the blizzards, but made it home safely

We have some skilled women here

I might have had a hard time installing them myself, well done!

I realised it's an old thread but surely the info I gave would help someone..

Don't worry about it and yes, the info could very well be of interest to folks on here. Especially when the rains finally arrive and the wipers have seized up................:D
