I'm away in the peak district at the moment and the winds are enough to rock the van. Yesterday afternoon the wind dropped so I put my silverscreen (long version) on the front of the van .

In the early hours the winds picked up again and I could here an unusual knocking noise. Half asleep I got up to track it down and realised the cover was no longer on the windscreen. It had flipped up and was on the van roof, still secured by the material over the cab doors.

Silverscreens website does suggest using the cover on the inside of the screen in high winds

Am I the only one to be daft enough to use the covers in a gale and has anyone got solutions for keeping the bottom of the cover on the bonnet?

Thanks in advance for useful suggestions and a smile for all the joke replies :roflmto:

Mine has some cord and a clip on the bottom which you fix under the van, I thought that they all had one.

Been using them for ten years now never had that happen but we don’t have the long length so are able to put wipers on the bottom to hold it down.
I would suggest a small ratchet strap across the front between the mirrors🤔

nothing like that that i can find. The central panel has velcro on 3 sides but no sign of any cord.

I take mine off when the wind gets over about 40mph as it flaps and looks like it might tear.

Well Speve, our door mirrors fold in towards the door glass.

We don't actually have anything on ours - which is not a 'longer' one - but I've seen both bungees across the windscreen between the door mirror brackets and the things that hook under the front 'bumper' in use by different users and I imagine the bungee would be more reliable since if the cover gets blown down the cab front, could it come unhooked? (Not seen the hooks or what they hook to!)

I attached some 10mm x 1mm thick neodymium magnets with some vinyl tape to mine, along with a dab of High Temperature contact adhesive. About every 12 to 14 inches along the bottom & top of the screen part to attach to the bonnet and above the windscreen with a couple on each side to attach to the A pillar, and then around the edges of the side screens to hold them flush to the doors. The magnets on the screen top are also handy as I can fold the front down during the day and it attaches to the bonnet and doesn't flap about. I haven't had any issues with it lifting at all since then, and that includes being on the cliff top at Whitby when it was blowing a hooley.

Taylormade supply magnetic "hedgehogs" (basically a Velcro pocket with a magnet inside) that attaches to the Velcro strip \ pads along the bottom of the screens (windscreen and doors) and then sticks to the metal bonnet \ door panels.

Some of the strongest magnets can be found in redundant computer hard-drives positioned each side of the disc.

destroy the outer case, remove the disc and smash, (thus destroying any data you may have left on it) and use the magnet to hold the silver screen down against you bonnet.

Caution, do not store these magnet near anything sensitive!

My front silver screen has two cords that attach to the bumper area.
If the winds start picking up I use a strap around the mirrors and across the screen as a secondary method of security.👍

Super Glue or No-Nails all round the edge of the screen cover before you put it up... (y)

........................:imoutahere:
A few lengths of that carpet gripper does the job and also has the added bonus of preventing birds nesting on your windscreen.

Fold door mirrors in.
Ties to door handles.
Velcro Strap in middle of windscreen placed around wiper arms.
Wipers to outside of Silver Screens.

Been using for approx 15years in all conditions, thankfully never a problem. Wouldn’t be without them both summer and winter.

not sure that gripper rod or super glue would help in removing the screens for travelling or enhance the value f the van if i want to sell. (I thought you normally contributed to the "worst joke Wednesday" thread old-mo ?).

It's certainly not one I would have Shell ed out for! :giggler:

Polar screen has Velcro straps that go under the wing mirror arm and loops that you attach a velcro strap to the door handles. Also put the cover under the wipers.

I didn’t know what the long version looked like, so checked silver screens and seen these, could you modify yours.

My Taylormade is very similar but has an added mesh so one can still see out but people can not see in. Also has straps under mirrors
(in fact they will make any configuration you desire) I have had and used mine for 4yrs and there still going strong.)
