Fantastic to watch, he knew that fire so well and everything came of it beautifully cooked, was certainly entertaining!

We were in a very modern restaurant (could have been part of a chain) on an industrial estate near Bourges in France a few years ago and everything was cooked on open fires, it was all very tasty apart from the appalling andouille sausage.

I made 2 mistakes when choosing andouille, the first was ordering it, the second slitting the skin to look at the contents. No carrot cubes so I guess that no- one had thrown up in there.

Have managed to avoid tripe (in both England and France) but did try frogs legs, at least they were only disappointing.

If you are brave enough to be veggies then surely you are brave enough to read about how the rest live.

Had an andouille sausage, apple, cream and calvados pizza a couple of years back, flambee'd as well. Words can't describe how wrong the taste was, apples ruined by the calvados, cream on a pizza and then to have an elephant poo his own insides on top and set fire to it was the final insult. What the hell do the French see in the taste of leftovers from a vets surgery?

How can calvados ruin apples, one is made from t'other?

Agree about the love affair between cheese and French bread, but it only works with bread in France.

There is a nice auberge in Beze in France that cooked that way.

That cad James Hewitt was in there the night we went about 15 years ago.

I’ve tried buying fresh bread in Paris, flying home to Heathrow to have it with cheese for supper. It doesn’t work! The cheese does though

Yes, we saw the 'sausage' being cooked looked like a Elephants....w....ly!
The restaurant is Le Clos Rubier, St George’s Riviera, near Barneville-Carteret, below Cherbourg.
Although very entertaining we had a meal at a restaurant in La Haye du Puits, with an open fire-not as massive as this one-but the menu was more varied/better.

I put a couple on the barbecue some years ago. I thought they would be just a nice fat sausage. Fat spewed out like a rocket going up.
