Has anybody had their Fiat 2.3 diesel tuned above the standard 130bhp ? If so what was your experience and whom if anyone would you recommend to do it?

this is another of those topics that will get a vast array of positive and negative answers.....

my 2 peneth worth for you.... i have a 2.3 130 or rather had,,,, its now 2.3 180. but i did not do it for the extra bhp i did it for Torque which it has improved significantly and a slight improvement of mpg.

it was done approx 10,000 miles ago with no apparent affect on any mechanicals, clutch brakes etc. i would advise that if you are going to get it done you have a professional remap and not just a plug in device.
informed my insurance no increase in premium.

would i do it again... absolutely.

No,I haven’t,and don’t know much about it,other than there are lots of threads on here to research if you want to.

But my question is..... what do you hope to achieve...go faster?,accelerate quicker? better mpg? better torque? I don’t want any of these on my old bus,but I can understand it if you do.....maybe!:giggle:(y)

The only remap that will get you exactly what you want and is matched to your vehicle is a professional rolling road remap. Otherwise you are buying a lucky dip!

You are not suggesting that each map should be written with the vehicle on the rollers are you? with many 1000's of engines all identical what would be the problem with a standard map or a choice of say three different maps.

My engine is a 2.8jtd(2003) and my experience is the same as Phil's.

You can chose a 120. 130, 150 or 180 bhp engine when you buy a van ( no names no pack drill) you do pay for the power increase but its basically the same engine with a re map for power and perhaps a beefed up clutch, how fast do you want to go? My van has the 130 bhp and in Germany will do over 90mph legally but its bloody frightening and its has the aerodynamics of a brick.! If going up an alpine pass it feels wheezy, then change down a gear the whole object of motorhoming is not to rush! You do not have to get to the hotel by x o clock accommodation? Its behind you!. What are you planning to tow? Unless they can promise a major increase in MPG and hands up who does over 12,000 miles per year in a Mhome? Save your cash or make sure if you decide to do it its done by an outfit that does not have a horse tied up by the front door!

My old 997 had been remapped by the previous owner, as 360 BHP wasn't quite enough for him! It subsequently failed the first MOT with a serious emissions fault, and it cost me £450 to get it restored to its original settings...

My friend Aston Martin was similarly butchered and cost over £4000 to put right!

Speaking to “Black Code “ tuning specialists They say that when a vehicle comes out of the factory the ECU is set in the middle of the engines parameters because they don’t know what country or conditions it is going to ie Hot/cold Flat /Hilly. Black Code remap the ecu to what you want more torque more mpg etc. It’s worth having a look on their website or give them a ring.

Basically they read your ecu and keep a copy of it I case you want it reversed. He told me that to his knowledge nobody has reversed their remap. It’s not that expensive.

Sorry you are wrong. The low bhp fiat has a basic turbo and as the models become more powerful the turbo is different, not just bigger as well as a number of other things.
