Can someone give me info on diesel heaters please the only ones I know of are space heaters and I don’t think they are what is meant

They are effectively a space heater.
They consist of a combustion chamber and heat exchanger.
Air is drawn through the heat exchanger then out through the ducting.
A fan to blow warm air through the duct without any exhaust gas.
The exhaust is expelled via an exhaust pipe under the van.
Many have their own fuel container or can utilise the main diesel tank

If it didnt come with a mounting Turet plate, it might be a good idea to get one, makes a much neater, safer job if you are venting through the floor as many do.

Here's a link to show one, but there are many suppliers, this is just one example.

That's just a mounting plate which is only suitable for mounting to a metal floor, a turret is similar but has a piece of 150mm steel pipe welded to it to go through the sandwich floor of a motorhome, various lengths are available to suit the thickness of the floor.

Have a look at the John McKay videos on YouTube and you will be an expert in no time, he is the diesel heater guru 👍

Ah yes I see it now, top middle of picture, not the same shape, but it will do the job, Specsavers are closed on Sunday nights arn't they?
How many KWS is the one pictured please? I know they go up to 8KW and dont use that much more fuel, but that may well be over the top for a normal sized MH, maybe better in a workshop.

Unless a new model has been released recently there are actually only two different ones, a 2kw and a 5kw, they have slightly different sized casings. Some of the 5kw ones are advertised as 8kw 🤷

Itsmcb Would it be best to oversize to 5KW?, as you can always turn it down I guess?
Thanks.

It depends on the size of your van. They don't work on a thermostat so in a small van like a Volkswagen camper 2kw would be ample but in a bigger coach-built then a 5kw would make more sense 👍

Yes they do, the thermostat is in the base of the LCD controller.
Do you have a Chinese one? I didn't think they were thermostatic unless you bought the aftermarket controller. Even then they must be battery hungry if they cycle off and on and use the glow plug each time?

5Kw it will be then, if we can still use the van in future years.
John McKay is the diesel heater man on You Tube, my mate Two on Tour aint bad either! (y)
Did you guys see those 40x40 steel ramps he welded up for his MH?, if you have the storage space, they would be great to work on most vehicles, well impressive.(y)

I have 4 Chinese diesel heaters, 2 of which are on Afterburner controllers and the other 2 on standard Chinese LCD controllers.

The thermostat on standard Chinese LCD controllers is the little bulb protruding from the casing that I have arrowed.

The Chinese controllers I always run on Hz, but afterburner controllers can be configured to numerous options for temperature control.

That's my intention, I bought a variable Y valve so that I can switch from truma to diesel heater. I should say that I bought everything two years ago but because of winter Covid restrictions I've not yet got around to fitting anything.
