It's been suggested to us (by a MoHo dealer) that, if Benimar agree to up-plate our MoHo, it may be downgraded from 4 belted seats to just 3. Has anyone else up-plated and lost a passenger? I'm just wondering what the logic behind this would be. If someone can explain it, I'd be very grateful :) Thanks :)

Can’t work that one out, why not ask the dealer?

Think about it for a minute. You up plate it for more payload so that means you can carry the four people and more crap very important stuff.
I’ve up plated our Hobby from 4600 to 5250 kgs and our Vantage from 3500 to 4250 kgs and no mention of passengers at all.

Exactly. I don't get it. If we were down-plating I'd understand it. But up-plating and losing a seat doesn't make any sense at all.

In many countries a van over 3.5t is a commercial vehicle and therefore limited to a driver and two passengers all in the front.

Absolutely. 👍

I agree but in this case it should say motor caravan on the V5.

Mines a Benimar.

In spain it might well happen. as they base "payload" on ability to carry passengers at the rate of each 75 kgs= 1 passenger.

doubt it would happen in the UK. Then again if I remember correctly you won't be seeing this:giggle:

I can see that could reduce number of passengers on downplating but not upplating.

Yeah, it's got me totally perplexed!! The dealer's getting back to me on Monday, once they've spoken to Benimar, so I'll know for sure what the crack is. In the meantime, I'm just shaking my head in wonderment and how the French system could come up with such a thing! 🙄

French rules re upping weight could be very difrent to uk

You may be right but why would they do it that way? It just doesn't make sense and I don't think my brain will stand this perplexion until Monday. It's driving me nuts!!! :banghead: 🤯

I've known makers remove a seatbelt to get NCC Approval, (Min 75kg per belted seat will be deducted from MIRO) and have the seatbelt in the cupboard. The one I particularly remember that did this, won a family van award from Practical motorhome!!!). That van only had 220 kg of payload, but with 4 belted seats it needed 300, so they took one out.

That's crazy! No wonder people are tempted to go over the limit. In situations like that, I guess they're really not fit for purpose

Our (French) Rapido handbook handbook states the following:

Number of seats (vehicle certificate) - 4(or 3)***

*** With option 160 hp and towing capability = 3 registered seats (3500kg) / without towing capability = 4 registered seats / With automatic gearbox MTA = 3 registered seats (3500 kg)

Never did decipher it tbh :ROFLMAO:

Are you sure there hasn’t been a misunderstanding, if they don’t speak good English they may think you want more payload at 3500kg so removing a passenger would do this. I would make sure they 100% understand you before ordering.

Thank you but yes, we translated it to French and printed out what we wanted. I'm pretty sure they know exactly what we want, as they queried us having the correct licence to drive it, which we both have. A lot was done using Google Translate, pointing at paperwork and hand gestures :)
