Lots of people post questions on here and receive lots of helpful answers but I've noticed very few seem to come back and let us know if any of the answers have resolved their problem. I read through a really long electrical problem thread yesterday with 57 posts only to get to the end and be left wondering how the OP got on. Am I the only one that finds this a little frustrating ?

Yip, agree it's frustrating but I do think it is getting a bitty better.

Happens regularly; it just needs someone to add a post asking if the problem was resolved?

Have these responses allayed your concerns that itā€™s only you thatā€™s irritated by it? šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

I think this was one of the reasons the vote up feature was introduced but I have rarely seen it used.

I would have thought it is just common curtesy and good manners to have a follow up post to let other Funsters know that you have or have not managed to resolve the issue you were asking help/advice on.

Whatā€™s the vote up feature?

Each reply on threads in the Motorhome Questions section has a little number and arrow under it, members can press on the arrow to vote as the most appropriate/correct reply. The thread can be sorted by most votes and the one most voted gets copied directly under the OP.

(I think thatā€™s how it works)

I'm a member of a Car Forum that has recently introduced a protocol that the Original Poster amends the Thread Title by adding 'Now Fixed. Solution at Post 35', so that the wading through countless potential, but ultimately fruitless, solutions, can be avoided. Basic courtesy should produce a 'Thanks, everyone and esp. to Fred who cracked the problem' acknowledgement from the OP; the more so if the mythical Fred has gone away and rummaged through files, photos, old brochures etc to dig out information to help the OP solve the problem.

Yep, I've moaned about it before I find it annoying when I have spent time researching a problem to try and help. It tends to make you not want to bother.

One of the biggest criticisms of forums is that the correct answer to a question can come a long way down the thread with a lot of dodgy advice or comedy in-between. However, no longer. We will have a dedicated Motorhome Questions forum. We will be able to upvote the best answers right to the top of the thread, so eventually, youā€™ll have the question immediately followed by the best answer. the giggles will still be there for all to see but the right answer will be seen first.

To hijack my own thread, what's the little tick next to the upvote arrow thingy for ? It just results in a 'your changes have been saved' dialogue box, what changes ?

A lot of this is new, unsubscribed members who come here, ask a question then run out of free posts before they get a solution.
The others who are full members and don't indicate they're sorted or not are just plain ignorant.

Is it because some just sign on, ask a question and bugger off when they have it solved?
Another car forum to which I belong has a rather cynical Administrator who uses your reply, pretty much verbatim! He is a self employed motor technician who provides a lot of free technical advice, even if it might deprive him of some of the smaller jobs [which he may not want to take on at the expense of the more complex jobs that require 1/2 day or full day time slots], but his 'I spend my time looking stuff up and you don't even say 'thanks' before buggering off into the sunset, and we never hear from you again' are quite acerbic!

I raised this very same subject on a thread here 2 to 3 years ago,as itā€™s plain rude.

The general feeling seemed to be that itā€™s just part of lifeā€™s rich tapestry, and if MHF becomes known as the very best place to go for advice, then more people will join. Canā€™t really argue with that, but if I was one of those who regularly, sometimes daily, answers all the electrica/battery/tyre questions I would end up pretty pissed off by the folk who donā€™t respond.

As the old saying goes ā€œ A thank you costs nothing ā€œ
