Just booked my Dover/Calais return ferry for Jan 2022 and they have gone up a bit, especially the Flexi ticket (:swear2:),which I always buy for the return leg. £285.0

£94 single Newhaven to Dieppe after 20% age discount, booked on Tuesday for travel 25th November on evening crossing. There are returns available in mid February next year for £60 net of discount, so £154 for Return Trip.

We have done the Newhaven-Dieppe crossing before and it was also discounted and took around 2 hours driving off the Calais route and this choice makes sense. However, for me 4 hrs on the ferry was too long ! I looked at the tunnel fare and that was a tad more than the Ferry and without the Flexi option on the return leg. The ferry flexi return leg option costs an extra £50.00 and gives us flexibility on our return crossing dates and times which we prefer to have.

We have Hull to Rotterdam booked for June, £393 return for 2 adults in a standard cabin. It’s looking like the cheapest option compared with the price of fuel to drive that extra couple of hundred miles.

Depends where you live, we are only 20 miles from Newhaven so if going down to Spain it saves around 400 miles on a return trip and it's a fairly cheap crossing.
We live over 400 miles from Dover and under 200 from Hull , it’s more to do with avoiding the drive south in the U.K. on. Friday night whereas with Hull crossing we’re parked up at 7pm and able to have a few beers.

Also within the ticket price is food, they feed you and it’s pretty good.

We use the Newcastle to Amsterdam a lot, find it cheaper than the P&O service and not as far to travel from Edinburgh…worth a look.

Just booked for December this year , Dover to Dunkirk early morning out mid morning return ,£185 with free meals for us both ( Dfds).
Prices vary alot with time of day, and which days you pick.

I've booked Eurotunnel for 18 days next June at £249 return. I did use a credit voucher I had from when we couldn't travel & I've got another credit voucher to use.

Depending on where we’re heading we will compare prices, we’ve used the Newcastle to Amsterdam several times when heading to Scandinavia, Berlin and Eastern Europe. This trip we plan on Germany and possibly around Lake Constance.

We are all moaning about ferry prices going up but in real terms they are still incredibly cheap.
Go back 30 years a car + caravan was around £250 Dover Calais & £400 Newhaven Dieppe. Today's value that would be £597 & £957

No complaints from me about DFDS prices; they have removed the 0800 booking number that you have to use to get the Over 60+ discount and replaced it with a premium rate of 13p per minute + own network costs. But you can book via email, if you're prepared to bounce emails back and forth. It required 7 or 8 messages to get our booking arranged this week

Using dfds .com site for going to the UK I can't get anything up after 16th december ? + there is no flexi?
using dfds .fr still nothing past 16th december but flexis available? additionally price is the same in euros as £'s ? so 16% cheaper booking via FR site(y)

On the Newhaven route I always used to pay in Euro but for the last 3 years it's been cheaper in pounds, strange as you book via a French call centre.

Once we are able to contemplate continental touring again (family issues prevent it at present) I will be weighing up the costs and benefits :)

Now Teesport is a free port I wonder if anyone will offer a SeaTruck type service for motorhomes from there? A quick look at a map shows RoRo facilities so maybe it would be worth an enquiry**. The SeaTruck crossing to Ireland (and the return) was brilliant and made the trip even more fun and interesting. Just watching the ships being loaded was fascinating. At the moment no passengers on SeaTruck due to covid though :(

** email sent to PD at Teesport to ask if they would consider it.

I’m with you there. Once we were onboard the DFDS Gothenburg to Immingham RoRo, we went up topsides and spent a pleasant hour or so in the sun watching the mini tractor units scuttling around feeding the unaccompanied trailers into the adjacent ferry. The operator spinning around in his seat depending on whether it was front or rear end in first, sometimes whizzing into a shed to change the adaptor if the hook up required it. Fascinating indeed.

Do you have to book a return? What about if you not sure when you're coming back or you just want to play by ear.

Thats more down to your travel insurance requirements, a lot of policies aren't valid without a return booking.
