Hi all. Well the letter from the dvla arrived today. The reason the licence has been rescinded is angina. But Glenn doesn't get angina. So now we have to find out where this suggestion comes from. He thought he did well on the treadmill test. He has an appointment to see the doc on 2nd Sept.
The van is in the garage having the aircon regassed. Seems a bit mad now but it was already booked in before we found out about the licence. I will be doing my first solo drive in it tomorrow to pick it up from the garage and will take it to the weighbridge. I'm not hopeful that it will come in under 3500kg The letter from the dvla almost seems to expect that we will appeal saying that Glenn should discuss the situation with the doctor and forward them any new evidence. Still feeling a bit fed up.:(:(:(
I was diagnosed as having angina, I lost my hgv license but could still drive up to 7.5 ton , 9 months latertriple bypass op, which ain't as bad as it sounds , 12 months later hgv reinstated , happy days

Hopefully you'll get it sorted so that both of you can drive but don't assume that just because you lack a bit of confidence at the moment that it's permanent. Jill does all the driving in our van because I've never liked driving all that much and she is happy to whilst I navigate.
Would wait for your letter then see if an appeal is worthwhile.
Do so hope your van can be downplated if needed.
Don't be scared of driving abroad, I find it much easier than in the uk, quieter roads and despite horn blowing, other drivers are much more forgiving of things like being in the wrong lane.
I am another who does most of the driving 4tonne van. John needs to apply to keep his C1 later this year, biggi will be in 3 years time as he needs to reapply at the time I apply to keep mine, only 3 days between birthdays.

Just a bit of an update. I haven't picked the van up from the garage yet as it needs a new part. It will be ready on Tuesday. So I'll be doing my first solo run then and I'll take it to the weighbridge. Last time we weighed the van it was 3650kg. It was full of water and diesel and stuff but I wasn't on it. :cautious: Me being on board could seriously bump the weight up.:D:D:D

A bit of good news. :) Glenn has just had a phone call from our GP expressing amazement that he has had his C1 revoked. The GP is writing a letter saying that there is no medical reason why Glenn shouldn't have his licence back. So things are looking much more hopeful. We've got a brilliant surgery. The GP called off his own bat.

If it was that serious the hospital should have told Glenn there and then. They didn't and he wasn't admitted to hospital so it is not a serious problem.

Has Glenn been advised he will need a stent or bypass surgery? I assume not (and a stent is a quick and routine procedure now) - again if not there isn't a problem. If he does need a stent he will be able to get his C1 back very quickly.

I have got the forms to reapply for my license and the medical forms for the C1 and can't see any grounds for refusal when I reapply - as long as I don't faint again. I see the specialist tomorrow so will see what she says. I'll still be within time to appeal (Scotland) if she thinks I should - but I can reapply in two weeks for the license to be restored in Novemeber so I may just wait for that as we are away until mid-October.

Up and now down again. :(:(:( Glenn phoned the dvla to find out where to send an appeal. The dvla insist there is no point in appealing as the medical report reveals that he doesn't meet the required standard. We thought the report was quite good saying he completed 9 mins on the treadmill with no chest pain. When he asked what the required standard is they wouldn't say and said they can only discuss medical details with a doctor. He has just phoned our GP who has agreed to call them.
Puddleduck. Glenn has already had 4 bypasses 30 years ago. His medical report said that there was no reason for further intervention. Hope you get your licence sorted. Being in Scotland doesn't give you much time to appeal.

I think in England you appeal via the magistrates court. Ignore what the DVLA have said about the appeal - they don't want you to do it and prove that they were wrong.

If you have a letter from your GP stating you are fit to drive with a C1 license and that the bypass etc was 30 years ago, no further treatment was necessary and he has not been referred to or seen by a cardiac specialist in x years I can't see why the license can be refused.

I wonder if the DVLA have misread the 30 years as 3 years?

Appeal, appeal, appeal. The DVLA will always tell you not to make work for them.

When you win the appeal go and see your MP !!

Well just been and picked the van up and did my first solo trip, albeit only about 15 miles. Glenn has resigned himself to not having the licence now. His GP phoned the dvla and discovered that the reason his licence was revoked is that he scored 2.5 on something to do with heart rate after the treadmill test. You need to have a score of less than 2 apparently. Don't think that there's much that can be done about that.
We will try a short trip away after the bank holiday with me driving and see how we feel about it after that. By the way someone suggested I do a driving course. I did have a two hour lesson on the van in February with a nice man called Mark who does the Eldis training courses near Durham. It was very helpful and I'm so glad I did that now. I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone who needs to build their confidence.

I think you should still appeal - you have nothing to lose.
Hopefully appeals go to someone who see's in more than black and white, and utilises a little common sense / experience !

I imagine there a huge amount of people who wouldn't score well on a treadmill for many reasons, the grossly obese would be top of a list. But, because they don't need to be tested they carry on driving regardless.

Appeal. What's the worse that could happen?
