Driving up the M5 today we were passed by a Bessacar moho sporting not one but two UK stickers on its rear end.
However the stickers were far from regulation being white letters on a Union Flag background??!!
Why waste money on such clearly illegal stickers?
Just decoration or plain waste of money stupid?

In what way are someone's choice of stickers 'illegal'?

Geoff
Its not illegal they can stick whatever they want on the back of their van.

My point is that the only legal UK sticker (for the EU) consists of solid black UK letters on a plain white background.

Mine cost £2 at the Lincoln show.

Just seems a complete waste of money to me to stick on two UK stickers that don't conform to the new requirement since 28 September.

I didn't realise they were necessary in the U.K.
They are not so maybe this owner just put them on for decoration, definitely not acceptable in the EU as long as some official has the time or inclination to pull them over if they drive around in the EU with them on.

I'm sure there's areas of expenditure you choose to make that others struggle to understand, in spite of all the tolerant and understanding members on here:LOL:

I get your point but I see quite a few motorhomes decorated with unnecessary stickers which the owners must think are amusing. ;)

Agree, I'll be more tolerant. Must have been the queuing for diesel that upset my normal quiet demeanour.

In that case mine are illegal then as mine are black letters stuck to my silver coloured van.

Unfortunately they are too easy to miss if they are only on the back of the van. It would be a much more effective warning if they were on the front as well. And maybe next to the Angles Morts stickers, to give cyclists a chance too.::bigsmile:

The Union flag has become politicised. I guess that was why the MH was showing two of them. It was a statement identifying with a particular political view.

Here's the government information.

Like me with my miss piggy, cookie monster & kermit peering over the top of our rear moulding. Normandy & Brittany stickers, U.K. counties etc.

Eh Spriddler have you seen the vans with the big smiley's on, there's hundreds of 'em... god knows what they're all about?

Maybe they wanted each side of the rear end to be symmetrical?
I have a St George flag with a West Riding flag within it and have one on each side of my bumper.
Does it matter?
As someone has said - £2, not exactly breaking the bank

Back in the late 50's they were fashionable travel boasts; little triangular plastic ones. My Dad's much travelled 1936 Morris 8 rear window was covered in 'em: Torquay.....Paignton......Brixham......Dartmouth...... Exmouth.......Longleat.......Milton Keynes.......Bolton...........

We've seen loads of UK cars here in Germany that don't have stickers on at all. I can't see that anyone would get stopped for not having one or having the 'wrong' one - the police have better things to do.

Time for a chill-pill😂

You are a long time dead…..and they will still have an “illegal” sticker👍

Here's the government information.
Read this before I posted and it says nothing about black letters on a white background.

Does not matter what’s for sale, I bought black UK on a clear background, the gov website only says that you need UK, and in the case of Spain where we will be going it cannot be on the number plate.
OK well have a read at this then from the AA. Interpretation is of course up to every individual. However, every retailer I've checked is selling the same white oval sticker with black letters as described below.

================================
Rules of the road, country by country

What to take in your vehicle
UK sticker
As of 28 September 2021, you'll need to use a UK sticker.

You currently need a UK sticker on your car if your number plate has any of these:

The Euro symbol.
A national flag of England, Scotland or Wales.
Letters and numbers with no flag or identifier.
A Union flag with a GB marker

The UK sticker must be have black letters on a white, elliptical background. They must be at least 80mm high with a stroke width of 10mm.

In some countries like Spain, Cyprus or Malta, or countries outside the EU, you must display a UK sticker no matter what's on your number plate.

If you have a number plate with a Union flag marker that includes the UK symbol, you do not need to display a separate UK staicker
