This our first!!
We're planning a trip through Scotland in December. We planned to mainly free camp and drop into commercial sites as needed.
However it's been suggested that there won't be many sites open in December. Just wondering if anyone can provide any info on what might be available?

My hearing must be bad, did you say December and Scotland in the same sentence.

We're just planning it all now so what's available could influence the route

Apparently you not the only person who thinks that we're a little loopy heading up that way in December‼️

More than toes wet now!
If you're into masochism (according to some Funsters!) the following Caravan and Motorhome Club sites are open all year.
Lidalia in Newcastleton
The Woods in Alloa
Edinburgh (funnily enough in Edinburgh)
The Ranch in Maybole
Grantown on Spey
Melrose
Strathclyde Country Park in Bothwell
at least the toilet blocks will be warm.

Since 2008 after caravanning for 20 years
We spent Hogmanay at Loch Ness Shores a couple of years ago, had a great time. It was cold but it didn't snow down at the lower levels.

As you come down from Glencoe , turn right into Glencoe Village, approx 3-400 yds is Invercoe campsite . Open all year with good views down Loch Leven.as you turn right the pub/hotel/diner is not bad for a beer or two. A mile further down is Ballachulish with a couple of pub/restaurants. Only downside is the site is overlooked by my nemesis, Pap of Glencoe, failed to climb it twice now , getting too old:D , not the hill , me.
They tell me age is just a number , bol..cks. Series < the Loch , was on tv a couple of weeks ago . The Police station building used is in Glencoe Village.
Nice walks in the area , best of which is 2.5 miles to the Clachaig pub. Need to stop directing people by pubs:).
Hope you enjoy Scotland when you come.

Lidalia in Newcastleton is a lovely site. Only small and the toilet block looks weird but is individual wet rooms and lovely and warm. It's got great walks nearby and two fabulous, friendly pubs in the village which is staggering distance if you have a drink or two!
Grantown on Spey is also fab, with great loos and walking distance to town and amazing walks along the old tramway and woodlands.

The ski areas also have campsites open.

Spent many a winter in Scotland in our RV and before that our caravan. It's an amazing place. Don't listen to the Sunseekers you'll miss out!

There's a lovely little site in Alyth open all year:)
We stayed at this one called Five Roads Caravan Park, Alyth ... It's owned and run by long time Funsters Simon and Sarah.
The site has all facilities and is absolutely immaculate.
I'm very happy to recommend this site for any time of the year and we shall certainly return when in the area.
