How much does a dealer generally knock off when buying back a motorhome, is there a rule of thumb or do they make it up as they go? I know a lot will depend on supply and demand but at the moment i think demand might be out stripping supply with the pandemic and people staying in the uk.

I know the vat goes but for a 3 year old motorhome what else?

Any thoughts appreciated

20% plus 5 % for the first year 5% per year after that after 5 years its a lottery as to how much demand for that model was it a success or a lemon!

If you look around at the same model on a dealers forecourt, and deduct at least £6000 may be more depending on a few factors and if they are just buying the vehicle in. Part of their profit is generally based on profit on a part ex and a new vehicle combined. So it could be considerably less, unless they have a buyer waiting

If they are short of stock just get a quote and add 10% on. They have the choice!. The value of anything is what someone will pay for it. The vat thing is a myth they only pay vat on their margin in effect as they claim it back on what they buy them in at.

Come Simon tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but

You could look at it from the other way around!

A brand new un crapped in loo, un slept on bed, no one else's pubes in the shower is £100K

The same make, technically the same model but the 2017 version is the same price which would you buy?

Logically the new one, so if it is £10K cheaper, would it make you want to buy the used one?

If it were £20K cheaper? then does it become more interesting?

My gut feeling would be that if a new one was £100K with the latest gizimo's and gadgets then the "used" would would have to be circa £70K to reflect this, and given if its a £100K in 2020 it was probably £90K in 2017 so, so many variables.

Phone five dealers and get five prices, get a mean average and that's the "trade" price ergo that is what it is worth

Thanks for the advice, i have 1 quote so will call some more. It was over a 100k without extras back in 2017, i have probably spent another 15k easy if not more but then some i would not get back no matter what. Either way looks as though its going to be a very costly venture which is only ever the case when you need to sell.

Thanks

PM Me the model and I will send you the Glasses screenshot. Just make sure when you see what Glasses values it at, you are sat down with a stiff drink and clean underwear!

I still recon at the moment while the markets buoyant you'll get a bit more. If you do need new underwear after seeing the glass' guide why not try for a bit more selling private for a week or two first.

Hi Zac,

We have experience of four seperate buy-back examples; from Lowdhams, Catterick Caravans, Tyne Valley and Dixon's of Perth. We didn't go ahead with any of them BTW.

When the dust settled I calculated that to hand our previous van(s) back directly, to a dealer with no PX etc, would mean that each dealer would want a £15,000 air gap between the price they were wiling to pay me and the price they would advertise on the windscreen.

The big shocker was that my supplying dealer gave us the worst deal of them all.

All the best,

Andrew

To be clear from my side these were seperate incidents involving the Autotrail and the Pilote so nowhere near the cost of Zac's posh Rapido.
Last year I asked for a valuation my Frankia at SMC, if I wanted to trade in they weren’t interested and then valued it at £20k under market value. 😡
Don’t ask me what I think about my experience with them. :swear::swear:

Pure saleman BS.
When we bought the current van we traded the old one it was 3 years old paid 58k (vat content 10k) for it, got 52k as a trade in.
