I know data roaming charges where to be dropped in Europe from 15th June. To the many funsters who have been to Europe since then have the phone companies lived up to their promises?

I have EE home broadband contract and recently got a phone on EE as you get extra 5gig month free on phone data if you have both. I can tether from my phone and it works very well in Europe.
My Huawei a bit redundant now......?until brexit?

They have no option as I think it was an EU directive.

It was....but thus will no longer apply to UK airtime providers from the date of the UK leaving the EU.

They may or may not continue the no-roaming-charges policy thereafter, but that'll be their commercial choice.
My strong prediction is that they'll re-impose them to at least some degree on UK SIM holders, as the lack of them hurts their revenue.

The EE package I took out in November already included calls and text to and from anywhere in the EU and data use throughout the EU. So June 15th was a none event for me.

As I posted a few days ago on another thread the head of Vodafone uk has publicly stated that Vodafone will not re introduce roaming charges because it does not make commercial sense for them. I suspect that other networks will not re introduce roaming fees either as they will not want to be loosing customers to other networks and there is very little chance of all networks agreeing to re introduce charges at the same level and at the same point on time.

With tethering makes my mifi redundant. Must look at a better data deal with o2 who I am tied too.

They seem to have stop throttling to. I was streaming on my three sim with virtually no buffering at all. we was able to stream poldark on bbc i player twice. radio worked fine every time. this was not the case before the EU ended roaming when I could only occasionally get the radio to work. My only complaint was my giff gaff phone while working fine, did not get 4g when I was roaming. My wifes vodaphone ipad did get 4g no problem.

Has anyone got 4g on O2 in Europe. I am lead to believe only 3G especially in France. Hope I am about to be corrected.

I've been in France two weeks now, not on O2 but Vodafone. For the first week or so, my data connection was really poor. Even when it said i had a good signal on HSPDA or 4G, pages would be really slow to open. Then after I knocked my battery out by accident, I got a text off voda saying 'you're probably expecting a text about roaming charges, but you're in a free-roaming area so you won't get one'. I wasn't expecting such a text, but since then my data has been superfast, just like in the UK. Works equally well when tethering too. I often get 4G.

I imagine O2 would be just as good.

If I tether my iPad or laptop to my phone will this use up my data quicker?
If you don't have a lot of data to play with, turn off updates on the iPad / lappy. Other than that, they shouldn't use up more except that you might do more with them that you might not on your phone eg watch YouTube or whatever

Tethering ... some networks allow it outside the UK some don't so make sure you check your provider's terms before doing so.

Now in France this past three weeks. O2 have no 4g partners in Europe only 3G which i know is better than nothing but irritatingly slow.

Tethering to a laptop will use more than tethering with a tablet as there is much more data downloaded when using a laptop.
