Yes, I understand it is illegal even to own one .
There are also use restrictions in other European countries. Eg. I believe in France you may only share dash cam footage with the police.

I believe they are also illegal in Luxembourg though I have never bothered to remove when passing through. I don't think anyone in Portugal will rummage through your lockers looking for a dashcam though.

All the gear, and no idea!
Had one running in Austria every time I’ve been there since 2013 (got knocked off the Harley when it would have been dead handy to have on if they was legal) never really thought about it, see plenty of Austrian bikes with go pro’s on, what’s the difference🤷‍♂️

So how are these countries going to cope with all the new vehicles which have built-in camera systems? Does it mean the end to tourists at their ski resorts, as my coaches have permanent camera systems will we be banned!

A €10,000 euro fine, apparently, for a first offence, and a €25,000 for a second or subsequent offence!

My dash cam is hard wired in, so I can't simply remove it for countries like Luxemburg where it's illegal to use a dash cam but not to own one. In Austria it's illegal to own one even if it's shut off and/or packed away, so even if it's clearly not operational you can still be fined.
I wonder if this has really happened. Though some quick Googling shows that a Portuguese solicitor tried to overthrow the use of dash cam footage showing the victim of his client being assaulted, on the basis that it infringed his client's privacy. He didn't succeed.

What about spain, I have just fitted a mirror based front rear dashcam system, first for security in the case of an accident, but it also gives me a rear view mirror. We are heading that way Tuesday.
