We've been looking at these ourselves, just a question, what does it save the footage on, is it an SD card? How much footage can you get on it?

They normally use a MicroSD card, maximum capacity depends on the individual unit. The footage that can be saved depends on card capacity and resolution (High Definition files are obviously bigger so less footage).

Yes it's a micro SD card. Not sure what quility setting I have it on but it holds about 4hrs on a 32gb card. The it starts from the begining and deletes the oldest. If theres an impact or sudden movement it locks the file so cannot be over written.

Is the loop you refer to not the size of the segments? Most dash cams run in segments.
The loop may be when the storage card is full and it starts to record over the beginning once again.
If there were no segments the recording would be one long file so that when the card was full the only way to continue would be to auto delete the whole file.
