Dashcam Hardwire Help Please. (1 Viewer)

I’m about to try and hardwire my Nextbase Dashcam in.

I’ve looked how to do it on here, however, a couple of issues.

1. The Fuse box layout is different to the one in the manual, however, I still think that fuse 51 (5a for Climate Control / power steering/ reversing lights etc) is the one to go for). On the photo it’s on the top row 3rd from the left.

2. All the screws, that are easily accessible, for the negative lead go into plastic and not metal. I don’t really want to attach it to the door hinge as it will be open to the wet.

Any pointers please?

Yes. Got all the stuff on the floor ready to go, but the fuse box mounting screws for the negative are out of reach. The bolt in the centre of the photo screws into plastic.

Using a 2a mini fuse that came with the kit.

Anything electronic / electrical is a dark art to me.

Now that’s WAY beyond me......

With my Peugeot Boxer based moho the fuse-box is to the right of the steering wheel, yet I had enough negative cable on the Nextbase hardwire kit to reach the vehicle's battery, which is in the floor on the passenger (left) side, with some to spare. I then just clamped it to the point where the battery negative is connected to the vehicle body. Probably a million reasons why that shouldn't be done, but it worked.
My problem was finding a fuse to piggy-back on, some of the 'live only when ignition is on' fuses weren't, but live when the ignition was off. Maybe my choice of where I secured the negative cable?

Find any fuse that’s under 15a and only works on the accessory or on when using the ignition.

As said just extend the Meg to a suitable point

Im surprised.

Have a look around the steering column or around the bottom of the A pillars.

Also look up behind the fuse box there’s bound to be a bit of metal with a screw or bolt in it somewhere

Yep, got all the right stuff, just having problems locating a convenient negative......it’s a tin box, how are can it be?

Don’t fancy connecting direct to the battery. I’m trying to bend my Allen key to try and get into the fuse mounting bracket nut.

I did the same. And wired the radio to the leisure battery to complete the confusion .

Looks like you’re around the A pillar there.

has to be some metal around there

If its a Ducato base see if there is a blanking plug next to the cigar lighter slot on the dashboard. If there is then you can fit a USB socket in it and take the power from the back of the cigar lighter. This is what I did and it works well. The dash cam is permanently plugged in to it and comes on when the engine is started.

Easiest solution is as above by the adaptor that plugs direct into the fuse box and then the cam would have its own fuse, pick up a earth from the nearest screw, bolt.

Where to find a ignition switched feed on a Late model Fiat Ducato??

Hi I’m currently wiring a reversing camera and monitor , is there a ignition switched live somewhere within the dash I can use? This is a fiat Ducato 2019 model. Thanks

Must start using our dash cam and maybe get a more up to date one as the small print in our MH insurance says the excess is waived if you have dashcam footage whether it's an at fault claim or not.

Get your multimeter out - find a live 12v and then probe around anywhere you see a screw or bolt and find an earth that way? Worst case you drill a small hole in bodywork hidden behind dash or foot well and put a self tapper screw in and blob both sides with silcone sealant.
Or go up behind the pastic cover on the A frame? - The bit of bodywork either side of the windscreen usually covered with pop on and off plastic trim.

Thanks, it was yours I was following, but I couldn’t get to the negative.

However, with a bit of fiddling about I got to this bolt..........looks easy to get an Allen key on but I assure you it wasn’t. Patient and perseverance.

You need some wobble head Allen keys then
