We are staying near Paignton and would like to go onto Dartmoor in our Motorhome just for the day
We’ve been on there a few years ago but can’t think what area we went onto. Wherever it was we spent a lovely day there.
We have a bigger MH now (8.1 meters). Can anyone recommend any places to visit with open areas to park on. Or is it a case of travel around until we find somewhere ?
We have a Sat Nav - Tom Tom camper version with height and width so trust we won’t be sent down a very narrow road !!!😱😱
Really looking forward to it so if anyone has any thoughts on the subject we would appreciate it. Thank you

We went a couple of years ago when staying at Tavistock. We would head out on the moor each morning for breakfast and found loads of pull ins and lay-bys to fit our 8m van but we were not in the midst of the new staycation boom. Getting there early guaranteed us a spot. Found the Yelperton to Princeton road quieter than the road to Bovey Tracey.

Not exactly remote moor, but easy parking all around the old airfield at Yelverton. Used to be a nice dairy ice cream shop in Yelperton. Plenty of walking opportunity and not far off the main road. Use google maps satellite to zoom in and you can see where the vehicles are parked and the access.

The road across to Princetown isn’t too bad from Yelverton. The Dartmoor Prison Museum worth a stop an has a carpark with would be ok if not busy

You can get up to Haytor from Bovey Tracey but I would not go beyond Widecombe. Don’t go up the road from Ashburton past River Dart Country Park as there are narrow roads and bridges.

Those areas are very busy with day trippers from Plymouth now & the top arrowed parking is very very pot holed & rough. Plus the ice cream shop has closed down! Parking is available on the old airfield perimeter during the day but it's not really proper moorland.

Thanks for info, it’s been a while since we were regularly there.
