DARTFORD CROSSING.

If anyone has been held up in the chaos at the Dartford Tunnel today it is because Carillion Highways have been pulling out all Cart Transporters from the North bound lanes to measure them!!!!!!
Traffic has been queuing for over one and a half hours from Orpington. They have been stopping all 4 lanes to pull out these trucks to send them to the Check lanes on the left hand side.
If they deem then to be over length they then charge £40.00 for an escort fee. I may be missing something here but I thought we had all suffered enough over the years with the toll booths, now just when things start to improve chaos ensues again.
Car Transporters have ben using the crossing for over 25years without any problems, now some one wants to generate some extra income and inconvenience other road users.
We wait until tomorrow for the next development.

vehicles up to 15ft 9ins nearside 2 lanes over 15ft 9ins offside 2 lanes. Do not think any funsters need worry.!

I went through it on Monday What a cock-up Held in traffic jam for half an hour stop start from the A2 stop for my piccy then off into the hole. Why can they not just take the picture on the move and why do they allow th North side to work and the South to takes months.
All I want now is a penalty charge , if they forget to put it on the charge correctly. This is going to be the scam of the century, the amount in fines has exceeded even their expectations, several time the expected number.
There is very little notices about how to pay just 'Go to the Website before the next day' Sod all there for the ignorant people who know nothing about the new system, foreigners and out of area people.
Came back the other way from the M40 it is 50/50. to the A2/20.

Will be going to Dover in May and just looking at mileages;
M1 M25 dartford crossing A2 = 217 miles
M1 M25 anticlockwise M20 = 231 miles
M1 A43 M40 M25 M20 = 247 miles
so it looks as if it is over the bridge there and back thru the tunnel tho there is little in it for 14 miles e/way so half a gallon probably break even by not using crossing. Just such a boring way round. But if they are chasing my money it is better in my pocket than theirs

I hate that route. Even having to visit MIL in Sheffield we do a "there and back" across the Penines from Cheshire to avoid having to use the M1 or A1. Almost without exception we use the M6, M40, then M25, passing Heathrow.
